I've been pretty quiet as for the wish list on this forum, but I have a quick question: What will the blood/gore be in this game? I'm not asking for Rambo blood, but I also don't want it to look like the soldiers are just falling down for a nap.
I'm up for lots of blood myself. Maybe I'll throw in some terrain decals of blood

I haven't studied the dead bodies much, but we'll have to get Tim to do some dismemberment.

Saw the video clip, and WOW!!
Playing the game aside, I could sit back and thoroughly enjoy just watching a battle like that! And call it time well spent!
Great work NSD Team!
Thanks for posting the video!B)

DOOM, man I still remember being absolutely blown away by that game back in the day. I could not believe how realistic they made it

Great Clip , but is there any way of making the casualties have a sort of random effect , causing them to fall to either the left, or right, or even backwards, from the sprite , to seem less repetitive.
Off Topic : Hey Chamberlain - now that was the game, of games, at it's time.

There are blood splats on the sprites hit - but you don't get the big pool of blood you gory devils are after! It depends which animation is used as to how much blood you get.
There are different animations for the deaths too - I actually made three variations for each uniform sprite however due to memory limitations only one animation per uniform was possible. These are varied from uniform to uniform but within the uniform set they are the same - it was the best I could do with the limitations placed upon me. As most regiments have mixed sprites there is some variety.

Understandable, but please don’t take my
suggestion as a negative commit, it’s just that the clip seemed to bring this to my attention.
The game is really looking great, and
kudos to all that is involved!

Hi davinci - I didn't take them as negative comments at all - sorry if it seemed that way. Your comments are most welcome - I was just trying to answer them really. I'm frustrated by the memory limitations myself - I've lost about 30% of the actual sprites I made which breaks my heart

Its like losing your boys in action  We have tried a number of things including super high res :silly: (that blew the memory out of the water!) We basically threw in everything and then cut back from there. The memory limitations apply to all games - its not just this one but computers can only handle so much RAM even the super duper ones. Total War gets away with it by having so few troops on the battlefield.
We've added some tricks for the variations - Derek came up with a simple but brilliant idea of varying sprite size so in effect you get three for the price of one. Its a constant battle and we welcome all comments so please keep them coming and I'll try to use them or answer them
I also played Doom back in the day. I remember taking it in turns with my mate and getting motion sickness watching him!!

This just goes to show how important it is to move on to the 3D objects for when the men are close. Massive sprite sets just take up too much memory. Cards today can handle objects very well. It will take some time to get it right, but it's something that we have to do and do soon. Probably not for this release, but soon after.

Hey, Jim , thanks for the response back, and no , I didn’t take it as negative.
But, your response did give me another idea, is there any way of creating a special folder , and placing all of the graphics along with a small readme file , and anything else that doesn’t make it into the game into this folder.
The folder can be added with the game, or with the expansion game .
Basically, the game is only restricted , by the memory limitations , of today, and not by the memory limitations of the computers , coming out next year.
Thanks,
davinci
