Jim - Some Kinda Transparent Clear Lookin Flag Would Work Good As A Ghost Flag..
I agree with Dale.. That would be a really really cool feature to have a battle summary screen page displayin all the flags you captured and the other side captured.. Kinda like another little victory within the battle.. Plus you can see the flags in a bigger view to get a better idea of what they really look like in more detail.. I would greatly enjoy this within the game..
Now for the flag capturing itself.. What would the terms of capture be ?? The flags in the civil war were one of the most important things to men and commanders.. It let the commanders view progress and movement.. All men followed it and retreated with it. Color Bearer was a deadly honor...
A "color detail" was usually assigned to each unit for the express purpose of insuring that the flag was properly displayed at the head of the unit, and great sacrifice and extremes were made to insure the safety of the flag. Even accounts of men tare'n it apart and handin out pieces of it to fellow soldiers so it wouldnt be captured.
A regiment's flag was carried by a color sergeant who was the central man in the color guard. A color guard was composed of five to eight corporals whose job was to protect the color sergeants and the flags of the regiment. The regiment's flag was a great source of pride in each regiment and to lose the flag in battle was a great disgrace. The capture of an opponent's flag was, in turn, a great honor.
So it certainly is no easy task for a flag to be captured..
So here is captured terms I think work best
In Surrender
In Route
In some case of a Charge
To just randomly capture a flag when your any distance away is fake and unrealistic..
So it should be in pshyical contact of a charge. Which ever regiment retreats from the charge has some kinda percentage chance of havin there flag captured as they retreat..
In route that regiment is no longer playable as its destroyed so you should auto gain there flag as well if they surrender...
Also in many cases flags were recaptured on the battlefield.. So there should be a way to recapture your flag if it was lost in a charge !!! Such as if the regiment that captured it is routed or surrenders the regiment that lost a flag to them gets there flag back but only if the regiment that lost it is still usealbe or if you charge them again you could possibly recapture it..
I agree on the moral boost for that regiment that captures a flag in any 3 of the ways... and a moral loss for the regiment that loses there flag in a charge..
Thats My 2 Cents On It To Make It Accurate And Real As Possible ...
