I'd rather have 4 Napoleons with cannister than 6 3" Ordnances!

I believe in TC2M you would know the the total # amount of munitions an artillery unit would have, but not how it was divided up into; shrapnel, cannister, ect., would this be the same in GB?

I believe Norb and Co. have gotten the percentages correct per gun type.

In addition, I believe that the amount of men a gun crew has specifies the ammunition levels, though I could be wrong. (I remember hearing that somewhere)

Jim was the source of that info. Been playing TC2M alot lately trying different techniques, often getting 1000 casualties from one battery before having to resupply it. These batteries are almost always in cannister range, but never seem to run out of cannister. That's why I "?" the munition levels.

According to the manual, the number of men per gun crew has nothing to do with the amount or type of ammunition.

For the record, from the 1864 manual, the "Organization of a Six-Pounder Mounted Battery":
Captain: 1
Lts.: 4
Staff Sgts.: 2 Mounted
Sgts.: 6 Mtd.
Cpls.: 12
Artificers: 6 Mtd.
Buglers: 2 Mtd.
Drivers: 84 Mtd.
Cannoneers: 70
Spares: 10 Horses!

Also, in the manual, one will find "Ammunition Carried in Each Chest." For the 12-Pounder Gun:
Shot, fixed: 20
Spherical Case, fixed: 8
Canisters, fixed: 4
Spare Cartridges: 2
Friction Primers: 48

In a footnote, it states the 10-Pounder Parrott and the 3 Inch Ordnance Rifle each carry 50 rounds per chest while the 20-Pounder Parrott carries 25 rounds! Now, that simply means there are a total of 100 rounds available for the 20# Parrott if both limbers (one for the gun and one for the caisson) and both chests on the cassion are chockful! Be curious to see how these numbers are reflected in the new game.

Professor

Many batteries in TC2M carry in excess of 100-150 and more rounds. To be specific I'd have to go fire up the game to take notes as to which battery had what.

How many ACW manuals do you have Kerflumoxed?

BOSTON, I have the same problems resupplying that you do. No matter the formation. When I resupply, I send the wagon double quick past the regiments or guns and select the given commander, and click the formation button they were in to make them get back in line. Yes it's a pain, but I've been doing it for so long now that I really don't think about it. However, like you, I don't understand why the units go for a stroll when resupplied.

If we add up the 50 rounds per chest for both the 10# Parrott and the 3" Ordnance Rifle which totals 200 rounds per gun, that figure is not so far off. On the other hand, since we never see the caissons that accompanied each gun, and if they were not available, then each of these guns would only have 50 rounds! I suspect, however, that it was simply not possible to include each and every caisson as that would possibly "slow" the game.

I never considered the historical munitions supplied, I just thought it was cool that a battery with a large amount of shot meant that it would be a long time before having to resupply it. Where there had been so-o-o much canister used at GB I had to wonder how it is going to be managed in the game?
