RESUPPY

Post by BOSTON »

Another unrealistic feature about artillery in TC2M is the waundering guns  to the CO after being resupplied. Often I would resupply a battery, just to see it get all disorganized, TC all the guns back to where they should be, only to see them rout from incoming fire while doing so.

The same for infantry after being resupplied, they'd automatically head in the direction of the brigade CO.. Often a scenario would start with less than fully supplied units by design. Or after a good fight during a long scenario (lull in the action) I would check the supply condition of a in place battleline, bring up a supply wagon, but had to closely monitor the freshly supplied units for going out of position.

Is this quirk or bug going to be the same in GB? I'd like to see units stay in place after being supplied, especially in a real time game.

Realistically, it is a good idea, because your supply wagons should be way in the rear, not along the front lines.

I think you missed the point. No matter where the brigade or the battery is, they become disorganized when resupplied.

Has anybodyelse noticed the peculiar movement of units after being resupplied?

Hey Boston,

I think it depends on the formation of the units being supplied. If a brigade in in maneuver column and you run the ammo wagon over them they stay there. If they are in battle line then they all report to the commander. With artillery I've noticed that the if the commander of the battery is in the middle and they are firing and they get resupplied then the outer 2 units will go to the commander and the inner 2 won't. In each case, I just click on the brigade/arty commander and keep clicking brigade halt as they resupply. That usually kept everyone about where they were. It was one of those things that you just had to do that way otherwise it would mess up your entire line.

Hi Greg!

Would you agree that if units after being resupplied stayed in position would make the game easier to manage? I've tried leaving the supply wagon in a road, then have units pass through it(road column mode), some success, but not much. I'll try the art. CO "halt command" in the Bank's scenario, at the moment, all the units are in full up.

I believe the idea of the units moving is this:

When a unit retreats due to the lack of ammo, it goes to the rear. Then, it marches to the supply wagon, in the rear. It gets ammo, then what? It marches back to its commander at the front!

Again, realistically, ammo wagons are not suppose to be in a battery firing cannister at an enemy just 100 yards away, like some people think.

But, it is just a game.

You're right in not resuppling a unit in close engagement, that's asking for trouble, but I will supply various units in a stand off engagement and try to maintain line order.

Your suggestion worked out well using the
COs commands. :)
