Unit Control

Post by Gunfreak »

The issue is that you always need to give a formation order after a movement order to get your troops to follow the general. This applies 100% for brigade, batteries, divisions but Corps commanders do not have a formation because this would be too unwieldy.

So you give them a stance and a target, i.e. Ney - all out attack - the allied ridge, and let him move his own troops as required and coordinate the attack - or you TC him and move his three divisions yourself if you prefer micromanagement.
I have problems getting even divisonal generals to do this, one thing is corps, but so far only one division has followed this order, I choose a division general, right click a place on the map, and choose line, only the divisonal general moves, non of the brigade, so far I have to move every single brigade by hand(short of telling a corps commander to attack ect.) I once had a divison general actualy letting my place his brigades.(I was suprised when this happend as I had tried many times before and it never worked, so I assumed you couldn't do it, so when suddnely markers for the brigades showed up I was suprised.

I made a new thread for this.

First question - are you sure the division generals are under your control? In many scenarios, there are multiple division and corps around you but you do not have authority to move them.

I'm Napoleon, so I have athority to make love to his wife if I wanted too!

In one example I wanted to move my young guard division, I moved my division general, right clicked, gave order for line. he started to move all by him lonesome.

I had to get each of his two brigade genrerals and give each of them their own orders.

Was this sandbox or scenario. If a scenario which was it?

Napoleons wife is an easter egg, and shaped similarly.

That scenario starts with the Ai turned off for all troops to give you time to get your bearings. Your subordinates will not follow your orders unless you turn the AI on again.

i think that they are detached. in the bottom where
the icons are, there should be a flag. the attach-detach
button.

if you want to attach a certain general under a corps commander,
you simply attach him with the flag button.
