I recently started playing the Scourge of War demo. I'm a fan of the concept and have been having alot of fun. I'm just about ready to go ahead and buy the full the games. I enjoy playing as a brigade commander; waiting for orders is a nice touch. The one issue that I've run into though is the AI in the sandbox.
Last night I was playing as a Brigade in a corps vs corps battle under McLaws and Longstreet. Orders came down to attack the union position. As I was the far right flank, I moved to engage... only to notice that the rest of the line was still standing there. OK, well, Pickett's Charge it will be then. Anyway - to cut a long story short - by the time the rest of the Corps engaged, I'd been going one on one with an entire Federal division. Meanwhile both the US and CS artillery, still limbered, rode right up the center road (Kansas map) and intermixed with each other. Maybe there weren't enough objectives on the map, but it seemed like everyone above me was just sitting around. Faulty AI or highly realistic? I'm not yet sure.
So to get to the heart of the matter, how's the AI at Division/Corps command in the full game? Do they issue sound tactical orders or is every attack "Charge through two divisions" and every defense "Stand to the death"? Are they better with scenarios or sand box?
Finally - and on an unrelated note - is there a "campaign mode" ala Sid Meier's Gettysburg, where you can fight the entire battle in sequence based on previous performances?
Thanks!

Re: How's the AI compared to the demo
To make a long answer short, Sandbox battles will be different every time. Scenarios will be as well, but follow more of a historical path, with variants. There are several factors that determine the AI's "personality" for each battle. Sometimes they will stand and fight or aggressively charge through divisions, etc. etc.. It depends on the objectives, commander experience, personality, and more. You'll learn pretty quick that the AI in this game is some of the best and realistic you'll find anywhere..
And yes, the Gettysburg game does follow a campaign-like flow where you have to win one battle to unlock the next, and some of the scenarios carryover to the next, meaning the casualties you sustained will carryover.
You can also take it a step further and download one of the mods, such as the "Gettysburg in 8 hours" scenario which covers the entire battle on a single 5 mile Gettysburg map.
Hope this helps.

Hi Dermax. Beauty of this game is A.I. is ever changing depending on situation. I would recommend buying the game. Don’t just buy Gettysburg version, buy the whole anniversary edition. Don’t just buy Anniversary edition but go all out and purchase it with the CD version. You will be able to download and start playing right away an in a couple days (took two days for me ) you will receive a very cool boxed edition in the mail with a groovy printed manual. This is the best game I have ever purchased and I have been buying computer games since the Commodore 64.
p.s. If you do not play as the confederates you risk being struck dead by a lighting bolt sent down from General Lee himself.

Unless there's another version I'm unaware of, it's: Gettysburg 3Days in 7HoursYou can also take it a step further and download one of the mods, such as the "Gettysburg in 8 hours" scenario which covers the entire battle on a single 5 mile Gettysburg map.
Believe me, 7 hours is plenty of time to decide the outcome...
