New Player Needs Guidance

Post by Xcamr »

I'm playing the Division Tutorial and maybe I'm missing something. The tutorial doesn't really explain much about giving orders and I'm fairly lost. I click on a commander of a brigade and tell him to hold. Rarely will they hold, and they generally keep chasing the enemy. That wouldn't be so bad except that they are so anxious to chase, that they at times making horrendous tactical choices. Like telling a regiment to move between two union regiments, and then try and flank one (while exposing its rear to the other union regiment. Am I doing something wrong? I'm so frustrated right now.

I would start with are your commander TC'ed, The button with the Flag lit up means it on...You want to make sure this is on, Unless playing with couriers then I would say good luck trying to get commanders to listen to you...As far as the Reg. not fighting well and doing silly things that happens all the time when the A.I. is controlling troops.

TC'd Stands for Take command which means you have full control of the troops, Again it is the button with the little flag on it, Just above the "GO" button at the bottom.

Okay that seemed to work better. I played Blood in the Run scenario. I easily destroyed the confederates, 45 union deaths to the AI's 305. I even had troops at both objectives and had driven the confederates off the ridge and still lost? I noticed that one of the objectives would not turn to the american flag, despite having troops right on it. Any ideas?

You have to have a commander on it as well, Also if there are enemy troops in the area it will stay white.

Does the commander have to stay in the area? or does he just have to initialize it and then is able to move on?

Ah, according the manual that I just found in my install directory, the officer has to stay until captured.

My other concern is that I lost instead of getting a minor victory. I had one of the objectives secured, while the Rebs had none.
