Will there be a view for looking at the battlefield through the commanders eyes.

I don't think anything has been set in stone yet with this, but this could be something available in one of the difficulty settings.

When I'm feeling brave, I certainly enjoy commander view or "in the saddle" view. :)

If the New Game has the "F" key function, like in TC2M;

In TC2M the "F" key does that.
If you hit it once, the camera view is From the Saddle. You can't even use the mouse to look to the sides.
If you hit the "F" key twice, you can use the mouse to look all the way around, but still can't raise the camera view.
If you hit the "F" key a third time, the camera is unlocked and can move freely.

In the first two views, you can use the arrow keys to shuffle through your commanders or regiments, but the camera view is still locked, and can't be raised.

I asked about that function in regards to the New Game, this past winter, but I don't remember what Norb or Jim said about it.

I hope it can be done. Fighting a battle like that makes for an entirely different game experience.

I agree. It can make the easiest scenario a big challenge. It's about as close as you can get to actually being there commanding the battle.. Having to direct your regiments that are close by using verbal orders, and relying on couriers to direct forces that aren't so close by.. :)

Indeed! Commanding isn't so easy without the aid of the Goodyear Blimp camera view! Just handling a brigade in a Division sized fight, is a challenge! But a lot of fun, just the same. B)
