Gettysburg program on the Military Channel

If you have the Military Channel, I would suggest you watch/tivo/DVR/VCR-record (or whatever other method you use to watch TV these days.. lol) the program Gettysburg: The Battle that Changed America. It airs again July 25th at 6 PM.

I watched it over the weekend, and it was a pretty good little program.

Spoiler Alert.

It was a good overall account of the battle. It talked quite a bit about the fight for Culps Hill, which is usually ignored in most of the other Gettysburg programs I have seen. I also liked how it concentrated on how Lee could have won the battle if different events occurred (Ewell taking Culps Hill on the first day, giving the Reb army a huge tactical advantage).

It also had some great computer animated re-creations giving the viewer a never before seen perspective, especially the fight in the East Cavalry Field. It showed Stuarts Column marching West, and Custer attacking the head of the column, causing the whole column to break and run.

There may have been small inaccuracies here and there, but overall it was a good program and I recommend you check it out.

I liked that program and the one that goes hand in hand with it about Lincoln's speech. I don't remember the exact name, it was something along the lines of the Speech that Saved America.

Not sure, but think I may have seen this one, also, but will have to watch it again to be sure. That may have been the one that included a night scene we filmed at the 125th GB.

Yeah, there was a night seen or two depicting the CSA assault on Culps Hill. Had some pretty cool cannon-kill special effects..

Well, in all honesty, I believe it was less than impressive! Perpetuated the myth regarding shoes in Gettysburg, Lee's uniform was a farb general's ideal, a cavalry 2nd Lt. defending Culp's Hill, no mention of Buford's excellent defense nor the death of Reynolds, etc. Even the military officer presented false information! If this had been presented in my class, I would have graded this production, at best a D+ and one that would not win this "Critic's Choice Award!" :dry: :dry:

Well then sir I shall take you on your word since your a teacher and so on if it wasn't accurate then I won't watch it. I hate how now and days no one seems to know what is what when it comes to history like in the patriot (straying off topic) the Colonial soldiers all were wearing there blue coats during battle, would have not been the case they would of taken them off one to preserve so it wouldn't get all messy, two because it would get hot wearing them, and three they only could bearely get anything else.

It was not my goal to persuade one not to watch it. In fact, I strongly urge anyone with a GB interest to watch and judge for themselves the accuracy and/or errors they contained within. I would be interested in your opinion.

I am starting to think I may have seen it did they talk about how some commanders couldn't here the sounds of battle because of the heat or an obstuction. Or the thing where the guy was walking around culps hill with that gps thing.
