if we do this tree, then we should really do every witness tree in GB, and i'm frankly not certain whether or not we're placing every single witness tree on the field, i'll let Jim/Norb weigh in on that.

i do know the Copse and the giant poplar across from the Cemetary gate is represented. and those are there for tactical/landmark purposes as far as i can tell...

No sweat. I just thought this witness tree might be represented because it is so prominent, was used by Sickles as his HQ site, and is considered by many to be the most famous witness tree on the field. I'm sure you have bigger fish to fry than worrying about an individual tree.

Bigelow's 9th Mass. battery fight at the Trostle farm:

Although the Warren map shows an orchard across the farm lane (south) from the Abraham Trostle farm, it is the belief of the senior historian at Gettysburg, Kathy Harrison, that this orchard was post-battle. The Warren map was made several years after the battle. See the following MHO discussion:

OK, thanks Wayne. Along with Chuck's and Steve's responses, it seems to be the group's opinion that there was no orchard there at the time of the battle. Thanks.
- Quoted from AJ on MHO.

And there is no orchard on the NSD maps, just a few trees. :)

Even though Louie stated that the tree wasn't included, one of the trees is in the aprox. spot of the sickles witness tree.. :)

Therefore, NSD's map is correct again on both counts.
