Long Lane
The casual visitor to GB probably has never heard of it, but to students of the battle, Long Lane is a well known feature that was located south of the town west of the Emmittsburg Road. See the following post on MHO:

The above post got me curious so I checked out the Warren map. It clearly shows Long Lane as described in the post. According to the Warren Map, Long Lane was bordered on both sides by post and rail fence.
Is Long Lane shown on the game map and does it have the appropriate fencing?

You can get farther with a kind word and a gun than you can with a kind word alone.

Re:Long Lane
Hi AJ,
I'm having some trouble visualizing exactly where the lane is located, but I think I'm in the general area on the NSD maps. I do see a sunken dirt road and it is bordered by rail fence is some places.
If you could maybe provide some map pics etc., that would help me out.

Re:Long Lane
Thanks for that AJ. The Long Lane is definitely on the maps, and very precisely I might add.
Now that I know where it is, it's easy to spot. Especially with the Bliss farm south of it.
I walked right over the Long Lane when I walked Pickett's Charge in April, and didn't even realize it.

You know, one of these days I'm going to catch something you guys left off the map. I'm just beginning to wonder how small a detail I have to go to before that happens

Not to change the subject, but I found this on MHO and I thought this picture was very cool:

This was taken just past the Bryan Barn (it would be behind the photographer's left shoulder) looking north. The barn is part of the Emmanuel Trostle tenant farmstead (part of the Bryan property). If it was still there today, it would be about where the entrance sign to the old VC is on Steinwehr Ave. The rectangle footprint you see just to the left of the stone wall was from an outbuilding. Circa mid to late 1870s
Up until now, I didn't think a photo existed of the Emanuel Trostle farm (except for a very fuzzy shot taken from the artillery positions on west cemetery hill). Very cool!
I still haven't found any cows on the maps, so you could catch us on that.. :laugh:You know, one of these days I'm going to catch something you guys left off the map. I'm just beginning to wonder how small a detail I have to go to before that happens

Good find LP. I don't remember seeing that one before. It will come in handy later when we start doing our game vs. reality photo/screenshot comparisons. Keep digging for those obscure pictures.
