Scourge of War Boards

Hi all,

I've been sifting through photos of forts, entrenchments and breastworks for Hoistingman's article. I'll post some of these in sets that illustrate the progression of how they were improved upon though the war. Since Gettysburg was more of a meeting engagement there was not much time to make any impressive works but the photos illustrate that the men did what they could with what they had in terms of time and materials.

The first set will be of Gettysburg.

No that not how soldiers do it they shoot a solid shot at it and wazzam problem solved you now have a tree.:laugh:

Gettysburg Daily features that exact subject today.

How long after the battle did the union troops stay in their positions? Have to wonder if any of these were constructed post-battle.

Both armies stayed on the field July 4. The CS units departed overnight July 4-5. The main Union forces left early on July 6th.
