Got defeated tough I've drived them from the field!

I have just played scenario WL18 "General Bayonet" It was prety easy, those guard battalions just stood there on square and got blown to pieces. I've drived them totaly from the field without loosing even one battalion. Almost all my battalions had a positive ratio of kills. Besides this and tough I even had to wait for the scenario to end, I still got a report that I was defeated with 38 points...

Can some one explain this to me?

Another question, Afer directing some of my battalions, I lost the ability to give brigade commands. only two or three battalions obeyed my brigadiers orders, the rest were somehow detached. I tried the "atach unit" button and selected the detached battalions, but nothing happened!

Thanks in advance

Curious that this post should come up today when I was mentioning the strange behaviour of La Garde in another post yesterday.

They must have been at the cognac whilst waiting to be called into action and continually mistake attacking infantry for cavalry, form square and eventually get battered. In my case though I did get the victory, threading the two British Guards Regiments, TC'd in column at the double, between the weird ineffective squares and we just got to La Belle Alliance in time.

There is something definitely amiss with these two scenarios. Can somebody explain the circumstances that should trigger AI 'form square'. I had assumed all along squares were somehow related to horses and 'line' was quickly resumed once the threat was past. ?

Other Scenarios and Sandbox seem to work OK.

Sounds you need to get additional points holding a objective.

Maybe tou TC (button with the flag) your battalions so they don't follow orders except from you.

There is no objective point in this scenario !

Points gained by blood, toil, tears and sweat only. Best to ditch the Divisional Commander in the rear. He gets killed too easily, bringing the scenario to an abrupt halt. TC the brigades. You have to chase the fleeing enemy relentlessly at the double to bring him to battle to get any points at all. It helps generally to swing the axis of attack early on to move westwards flanking and rolling up the French Line.

Bring up your artillery to thump those pointless squares that form everywhere. The more artillery you can capture and attach for this purpose during the battle the better.

I amassed 1217 points at 'normal', quite how our friend Ferragus contrived to get such a low score, I really can't understand given his battle description.

Any light to shed or words of wisdom, Matt ?

Yeah this scenario is all combat points, no objectives. I too am surprised you have that score after routing the guard. I would say give it another go; try and capture some artillery, there are a few pieces spread in between the enemy battalions. Also try and minimize casualties if you can, as they also deduct from your score.

Will give it another try this evening. I supose the squares are a historical detail, for they did atack on square! altough their sqares actualy moved...
Anyway wouldnt it be a good idea to change the victory conditions for this scenario?...

Not at all. :P

The idea was to mix things up some from the normal objective based scenarios. We have another similar scenario in Chancellorsville. It provides a unique challenge when the objective is not to take/hold ground, but inflict carnage to win.. :)
