Offset location between click and move location

I am playing as a division commander with couriers. Sandbox. When I give a movement order to an individual commander under me, he doesn't move to where I click, but to an offset location (I believe to the location where he would be in the formation, i.e. it is pretending like my click is where I am in the formation).

I'll try to explain better if you don't understand.

Bug? Something I'm missing?

This is not a bug. It occurs when a destination is selected in a firing zone or movement path of a cannon, battalion, or squadron. The destination arrow then defaults to the closest available location that is not compromised by firing or pathing zones. Usually if you click around several times you can find a closer destination than the default one.

These zones are set up by invisible tiles, if you wish to learn more about how they work you can make them visible by adding lines in the sowwl.ini file.

[debug]
drawtiles=0

Make it =1

Thanks for the explanation. What is the advantage? It was driving me crazy so I saved and quit a battle. There was only distant enemy artillery around, FYI. Can I turn it off? I just want to order someone to go somewhere. I don't see the point.

Pretty sure it's hard coded, so no way to turn it off. It's designed to keep units from entering line of fire zones and pathing routes. Unfortunately it won't keep all troops out, just the flag portion of formations. This is why we got those negative screenshots as troops were firing, the flag portion and one flank were passing behind the firing line as designed, yet the other flank was crossing in front.

Well, this is my first and only big complaint about the game. How am I supposed to manage my division when I can't even predict where I'm telling them to go!?

Come on, it's not that big a deal. Most moves are done before your units are engaged, especially with a division move. So you're destination works first time every time. The only interference I generally run into is when I'm placing a TC'd officer to support an engaged unit, unTC'd officers seem to find their way better, it's like they know the right path to take.

Well, it is a big deal. I had to stop playing my current battle because I can't effectively move units. I try to move a battery, and his destination ends up behind where I click by 400 yards. It's impossible to play.

This is new to SOW:W, correct? Never had this issue before.

Moving Divions is easy enough in column

Whoa, that is extreme. If you can attach a screenshot and preferably a save. We'll check to see if that indeed is an issue. Thanks...

FYI, Firefox won't work for attachments, use another bowser

It is mainly with the batteries. Doesn't happen every time. Saved attached.
The attachment 1.rar is no longer available
Edit: For some reason, the attachment won't take. I'm in Chrome. When I try to submit with the attachment, it just takes me back to my profile page hmm
