Great Campaigns series of books

Post by jebstuart »

Has anyone read any of the Great campaign series of books on the civil war? They are my favorite books on civil war because they give detail about not just tactical level, but operational level as well ,focusing on supplies, traffic jams, lost orders, delays, river crossings, reinforcements, landscape as much as actual battles. It gives a great perspective to entire theater of operations.

Some that I have read so far are

The Peninsula Campaign [ really makes a boring part of war exciting]

Jackson's Valley Campaign

There are dozens of books in the series from bull run to Appomattox my next will be shiloh.

anyone else read any?
"How do you like this are coming back into the union"

"Angels went to receive his body from his grave but he was not there, they left very disappointed but upon return to heaven, found he had outflanked them and was already there". Northern newspaper about the death of Stonewall Jackson

"No way Sherman will go to hell, he would outflank the devil and get past havens guard"
