Any more updates coming for this title?

Post by Trilogy »

I was just wondering (hoping) whether the development of Waterloo might result in further updates to Gettysburg and its expansions. Is the older title effectively finished, or might there be some spillover progress?

Thanks!

The free Manassas and Lynchburg add-ons were released after Waterloo was announced so I think its possible that some NSD team members might release further map/OOB packs.

Its also possible that the ACW could use the new engine so I expect to see an explosion of modding in all sorts of periods for the new game as well, including ACW.

I personally would like to see NSD cover a couple more famous Napoleonic battles while they are looking at that era. For example Borodino and Wagram would then give us the other two main armies of the wars, Russia and Austria making the Napoleonic theme much more complete. Of course if you wanted to cover pretty much every nation in the wars then Leipzig is the battle to do but I don't know if the SoW2 engine is even capable of handling that!

Look at TC2M, even without official support that game is still alive through it's modding. SOW has even better mod capabilities plus MP, so until a new SOW ACW engine comes around I expect good mod support. Even after the European Theater is explored and SOW returns home to it's ACW roots, this original SOW engine won't go away, more than likely it'll have it's devoted clan like TC2M.

I have just asked Matt to release Manassas v2 with some lite scenarios.
I have just completed A Cold Harbor / Gaines Mill map. That is in Matts hands too.
I am Now working on Murfreesboro and soon to go to the Chattanooga campaign.
(Chickamauga included)

I will hit the Napoleonics Very heavily.

I am relatively open for suggestions

I am looking for GOOD OOB's to go with these. Many are junk.

I have extensive mapping resources, but a good contour map would be nice.

Scedule permitting, I need about 4 weeks to create a map from scratch. (in the style of Manassas.)

I can try to accomodate.

Saddletank,
Russia, Austria,Spain, The more unis the better.

Finding contour data is very hard, But I will be doing such.

Leipzig would be multiple maps.
Same with Wagram.
Borodino is doable, as well as Auserlitz, Freidland, Eylau, Asper-essling, Jena- Auerstadt,..
Lots of goodies there.

That's fantastic news, Mark. We've got a lot of value out of your Manassas map. Many thanks for your continued efforts.

Would you be open to doing maps of mid 19th C European battlefields? The particular ones I am thinking of are koeniggratz-Sadowa in 1866, and the battles around Metz in 1870 (St Privat etc). Our group has been using these for many years for our map kriegsspiels. It would be great to have them in SOW format.

The big advantage from your point of view is that they were produced by army mapping departments in the aftermath of the campaigns, and are to a very high standard - much better than most contemporary ACW cartography for example. They scale at 1:8,000 and contain all military important terrain, are very clear, extremely detailed, and are contoured :) .

They are also available in electronic format.
