Not sure if anyone can help, but it's worth a try:

Purchased and installed SOWGB 150th Anniversary edition. Had a technical issue with Windows 8 comparability, but the help desk at Matrix solved the problem. However, now there's a new problem: A minute or two after starting a game, the cursor/mouse starts lagging in response and then freezes altogether.

Has anyone here ever read of an issue like this with the game?

Never mind. In another thread I saw Reb Bugler's tip about setting the compatibility to Windows XP. It solved the issue with my game.
