Inheriting Troops?

Every so often, unfortunately, I have an officer that dies. Such is the case when I was NO Body, and one of Stuart's officers dies. So I go to Stuart, look at who is in charge now, and it's a random lieutenant. Out of curiousity, what defines who "inherits" command? Is it randomly generated, or is there a set person the command goes to?

This should help until one of the
Team-Members responds.
There is a file in the
logistics folder called
replroster which stands for
replace - roster .
There are names inside of this file that the game will use to replace any officer that is killed.
So, considering that it is moddable, you should be able to add any names to it that you like.
But, I doubt that you will have too much control over how the game will use those names.
Example - If General Lee was killed, you
couldn't assign
General Jackson as the next general that the game would pick to replace him.

And FYI, the list of names is made up of junior officers who were killed or seriously wounded at Gettysburg.
