PLEASE HELP

I just recently bought Scourge of War Gettysburg, the 150th Anniversary edition for 80$. I cannot get the game to work, there is a problem with the launcher or the game or something. I have two ways to launch the game, clicking a Scourge of War Gettysburg launcher that appeared in my desktop after the download finished which actually gets me into a launcher and gives me an option to play, or to manually look up "Scourge of War - Gettysburg and it instantly puts me into the game.

Both ways do not work and I do not know why,
I see literally no text anywhere and am having black boxes around some area ingame.

Why do I have this problem?
My friend doesn't have it and I've looked all around and no one else does. I've tried to reinstall it a few times and nothing works. Please anyone help, I don't want my 80$ to just fly out the window.
Thanks.

Right click on the SOWGB shortcut, select properties, then compatibility. Win XP as shown in the attached below works best for most folks.

Wait it actually seems to be working except I had to do it for SOWGB inside the Scourge of War - Anniversary Edition folder.

Thanks, how come that is a problem?

I stand corrected, thought the shortcut route would work. SOWGB was designed back in XP days, and patched under Win 7. This engine is through, we rely on the compatibility fix to see us through for now. We apologize for the problem you mentioned and the time it cost you. We really just see it as an issue with a reliable solution which we strive to address in a timely manner. Hopefully we can make it up to you with prompt and dedicated support for any future issues that you may have.
