Naval Action

I am not sure if this game has been mentioned previously, if it has I missed it, it just came to my attention today. It appears that a new Age of Sail combat game is being developed. It seems like the best opportunity I have seen in years to having a new modern game dedicated to age of sail combat, and they are still working on the type of game play etc. The only concern is that it could end up as another economy, crafting, pirate game, based on requests in their Forum. I would suggest taking a look at their website and join the Forum and speak up about having the game be focused on realistic age of sail naval combat, if that is your desire. There are not any good modern games of this era, and it would be great to finally have one.

Best Regards,

Gibson

I'm somewhat skeptical. I know works like this by small teams can be very difficult and there are more games like this which turn into vaporware than there are success stories. Still, I will jump into the forum, I've been following it a little while but it's still REALLY EARLY in the development process by the looks of things and I would bet a year or two away at the least.

I thought the fact that they had people who had worked on iL-2 and Rise of Flight to be a good sign. I guess time will tell.

High hopes for this have been dashed.

We've since discovered that there's going to be no historical gameplay whatsoever in this. It sounds like there will be two games; a World of Tanks clone set in the age of sail and all the nonesense that that implies, and then a piratey MMO type game that sounds like its going to be set in a fictional world. PotBs without all the magic and stuff.

Neither game interests me at all.

I still think Hearts of Oak will be the one to get. (plus its going to be free!)

Yes, yes, it's pirates - but once there's a sailing model with advanced sail management, you can battle away to your hearts content, mods will do the rest :)

This video impressed me...

The detail in the ships hulls is superb, and the sea is extremely good as well. My main gripes are that the ships are moving much too fast, what looks like about 4x the correct speed and that the sails are too static and rigid, no billowing, shivering or moving of yards.

Considering these guys began less than a year ago though, its quick progress.

Yeh - thats a nice one. Damn ships we're beautiful back then...although they should flog the Helmsman of the 2nd three decker for being so badly out of station :)

Yes, the speed is way too fast.
