Coming Soon - The Battle of Wagram

Post by Zeke »

Well it has to be done....While Gunship24 has a well deserved rest I'm announcing my next piece of work

The 1809 campaign.......

Image

It will also feature some of smaller battles around the main battle

Full Overview of the Battle

PDF Maps showing the battlefield

Historically accurate Wagram OOB

The OOB itself will be broken down as 280,000 men on one battlefield is simply too much (although rather cool to see!!) so I'll break down into smaller more manageable OOBs but hopefully just as epic!!!

If anybody is up for doing some Saxon flags that would be greatly received as it would help for my next piece of work afterwards ;) (a bit of a clue there)

I'll keep you updated but should hopefully be available next month B)

Yours

Bit of an update master OOB complete - its huge!! 250000 troops :woohoo:

Had a bit of a play around and here are a few screen shots of things to see.....

Bernadotte's Saxon Army

Image

Saxon Cavalry - I'm using a mixture of units to create this but looking fairly close to what they would have worn uniform wise....

Image

Saxon Lieb-Guard Cavalry....

Image

Saxon's massing for attack!

Image

Napoleon had a few more Foreign troops under his control here is the Hesse-Darmstadt Brigade...

Image

and here is the Baden Brigade.....

More testing and updates to follow soon B)

Zeke - Great looking Pictures:

Hey, I thought that the game would bog-down with that many troops, not so much as marching, but when they are fighting.

How did you get around that problem ?

Thanks guys :)

Re size of the armies I have had to play it as 8:1 ratio 1:1 was too much even for your excellent 10 mile map!!! :P

I plan to break down the OOB into smaller segments to make it more manageable and then the ratio could be brought down.

Here is the Portuguese Legion - its a bit controversial to be honest I have based this of various descriptions (in Digby Smith's works and other sources)its surmised that it was a white flag with a gold crest surrounded by gold trophies the truth be told no one actual knows for certain what their flag looked like!! They were issued with a French style flag in 1812 but they didn't receive this until after the 1812 campaign to summarise its all open to conjecture - Actually the Legion cavalry weren't issued with a flag so just reduced down the infantry flag for clarity and control on the battlefield as much as anything.

This will also be released with Wagram - The Battle of Raszyn - Mainly fought by Polish Troops (a brigade of Saxons were also present) under Józef Poniatowski against the Austrian VII Corps under Archduke Ferdinand de Este :)

What sprites did you use for the Poles? I don't think we have any sprites wearing the czapka yet do we?
HITS & Couriers - a different and realistic way to play SoW MP.

Here are a few screenshots of my testing - this is Wagram (Wag1) initial contact

Napoleon orders the advance

Image

Oudinot II Corps and Massena IV Corps move forward

Image

French skirmishers soon come into contact with Austrian light units

Image

These Austrian Light units including Jagers were soon forced back by the numerically stronger French

Image

Nordmanns Avant Guard Division backed up by elements of Johann von Klenau IV Korps moved forward en-masse to meet the French

Image

The sight that met the Austrians was the French Army marching over the Marchfeld towards them  ......

Image

More to come..... :) B) :)
