Field notebook of one of Jackson's staff

This field notebook belonged to Captain James Keith Boswell. An engineering officer on "Stonewall" Jackson's staff, the 24-year old Boswell was riding with the general on his fateful reconnaissance at Chancellorsville, which occurred 150 years ago this evening. The first volley that wounded Jackson killed Boswell; one bullet pierced this field notebook that he carried in his pocket. On display in the Museum, the book is open to a sketch map of the Rappahannock River near Chancellorsville.
