Through the magic of modding, Scourge of War is now the best way to recreate Napoleon-era battles in multi-player. To introduce more players to Gunship24’s wonderful Napoleonic mod, “Road to Wagram/Peninsular” a special Waterloo MP game will be hosted in the usual HITS/GCM Saturday time slot. (There are now semi-regular Napoleonic HITS games on Sundays and occasionally other days. See the Kriegspiel Forums for more info). To make this all happen, we will take advantage of Leffe7’s terrific new “Scenario Generator” to actually create the game, and Garnier’s specially created Napoleonic Large Random Maps that more closely recreate early 19th century European battlefields. But there’s no need to run the GCM Launcher or join the Battle Queue for this one!

There are many unique aspects of play involved with the Napoleonic mod. You will experience, for instance, cavalry charges, infantry squares, larger & more experienced regiments, and 120 yard rifle ranges. The style of play is also different. As Marching Thru Georgia notes, “unlike the ACW games, [in Napoleonics] there tends to be a preliminary period before the infantry engages. During that time, artillery bombardments take place, cavalry try to establish their superiority and some of the infantry can go on long marches to attack an enemy flank.” In other words, preliminary action and maneuver is typically prolonged – with less of the dash-in for a quick fight.

To play in Saturday’s event, there are a few simple things that must be done prior to game time for those new to the Napoleonics mod. Please consult the checklist below:

Waterloo Event Step-by-Step Guide
1) Download Gunship24’s Napoleonic “Road to Wagram/Peninsular” Mod and follow his directions at: http://www.norbsoftdev.net/forum/napole ... -sp-and-mp
Note there are 2 Wagram/Peninsular downloads, both of which must reside in your mods folder. These are the Road to Wagram mod and the Road to Wagram logistics/.csv folder

2) Download Garnier’s special package of 3 Napoleonic Large Random Maps and place this in your mods folder: http://www.norbsoftdev.net/forum/napole ... napoleonic

3) Download the latest "JustCouriers" and unzip into the SoW Mods folder (making sure it resides below "RandomMaps6")
https://www.dropbox.com/s/2h2tnp60wjl6b ... aps160.zip

4) Sign-up for the game and command preferences at: http://doodle.com/2bq3q7rcv2vmat8w

5) On Game Day...
*Start Scourge of War (This is NOT a GCM game so don’t boot SoW using the Launcher or join the website’s Battle Queue)
*Deactivate all Mods except:
Road to Wagram & Peninsular
Road to Wagram & Peninsular CSVs
RandomMaps6
GCM Terrain_4
JustCouriers
*Join the GCM TeamSpeak/HITS Channel at least 15 minutes before game time http://www.sowmp.com/gcm/home/teamspeak

Sides (French or Anglo-Allied) and specific commands will be determined as players show up. This will take a few minutes, so please be patient. Most standard KS and HITS/GCM game practices will be in place (e.g., Army CinC’s, 10 minute Council of War at launch; foliage remains always turned-on, etc.)

See you there!

Ex,

On the microscopic chance I might actually get to play, which Waterloo OOB will be used?

Jack,
The OOB's will be randomly generated using Stefan's new Scenario Generator, so the units and leaders will be historical, but randomly assigned, etc. Should be a real spectacle!

Jack, we are using the WaterlooSR8 OOB. It's 165k in size. As exp101 said, it will be some randomly selected piece of it. It would be great if you could make it. You can command anything from a brigade to a corps.
I can make this march and I will make Georgia howl.

The "official" Waterloo Command Map in use in Saturday's game is a special period recreation, courtesy of Kevin (MTG). This is the one included for download in my post above. In order for players to "sing from the same hymnal" (read: use the same command map) as their CinC's, it is strongly suggested that each player install this new official version prior to the game.

Fortunately, installation couldn't be simpler. Just download Kevin's latest"JustCouriers" at:
http://www.norbsoftware.com/Downloads/M ... aps160.zip

Then, unzip the file into your SoW Mods folder and activate "JustCouriers". Oh, and make sure in your list of mods that JustCouriers resides beneath "RandomMaps6" -- Nothing to it!

Thanks to Kevin for taking us one step closer to Napoleonic authenticity! :)

This looks like an awesome idea and i would love to join you guys. I have to add though that this would be my first contact with the Nap mod. Chances are i'll be a greater danger to my side than to the enemy but if you are still looking for players i'd be happy to join.

Commanding from the saddle and always leaving the vegetation on is the hardest part of these games. I think it is also the most satisfying part. There is no question that the napoleonic battlefield is a much more dangerous and complicated battlespace than the ACW. One well timed cavalry charge will ruin your whole day. If you enjoy HITS play give it a try. You'll have a brigade to command under an experienced human division commander. He'll be able to give you advice on what to do and when. You won't be out there alone, fending for yourself.
