Scourge of War Boards

All,

I realize most folks like the couriers riding across the fields to find thier intended recipients, but I actually prefer them to use roads, especially on any of the bigger maps. Is there a way to set this up as a mod, or is this hard-coded? Either way is fine, just looking for an answer. Frankly, I don't remember what was said a while back, and am too lazy to search through all the threads.

It's hardcoded. I believe if the recipient is far enough away, the couriers do take the roads.

Thanks. Assumed as much after all the back-and-forth about it. Unfortunately, couriers now travel the whole distance off-road, as it were, to reach their destination. Oh well.

Actually I think originally the couriers rode direct, then NSD issued a patch and they used the roads over a certain distance, I think it was 600 yds betweeen sender and recipient. Problem was they took illogical routes and took far too long, sometimes riding into enemy in plain sight. A loud minority asked to have it changed back and so it was - couriers now go direct again.

We tried the road thing and in HITS MP it was hopeless, causing endless frustration and unrealistic incidents.

The direct path isn't perfect either and I'd prefer a mix of the two but that is beyond the game in its current form.
