Problems joining host?

Post by Blaugrana »

We have had a few instances recently of players able to access the lobby but unable to join the host. Last night two players were unable to join rooms set up by three successive hosts.

Is anyone else having any problems? Any ideas for fixes?

Thanks,

Jeff

To add a little more detail, on one occasion I got "unable to connect to NAT server".

On another occasion I got "Connected to NAT server" and then nothing - no further progress.

I was unable to join any host by direct IP. As Blaugrana says, we tried three separate hosts, 2 located in UK, one in US.

I rebooted my PC after 2 of the failures and so rejoined with a restarted internet connection, same problem.

I have only had these indifferent connection issues since the v1.500 patch, with the old system and 1.4 patch I found connecting easier.

We've seen a few instances of this in GCM games, Digby. It's a good thing that more people are able to host since 1.5 came out. But a few of them have had a couple of players unable to connect to their staging area from the lobby or join them in staging by ip. As of yet, we haven't figured out why this happens. Luckily, only a couple of hosts have had this problem.

In the GCM we have also found that host that have their ports forwarded pre 1.5 appear to be the most successful in hosting post 1.5 :)

Strangely enough I think you may be onto something there!

I had my port forwarded pre 1.5, and I used to host the games with two other friends. Now I can no longer host. One friend is able to host, but only through IP, and not through the lobby. So that works, but still frustrating that we can't use the lobby as we used to.

I seem to have the same issue: I cannot join any MP games due to "unable to connect to NAT server".

However, I can host both standard MP games as well as GCM games.

I switched off firewall completely, to no avail.
Jonah had me install MS.net framework as well, to no avail.

SoW GB Version is 1.5001. GCM is up-to-date 535.

I'd try a re-install, if there is a way to preserve my scenario high scores. B)

Thanks in advance for your recommendations.

Did you try joining by IP, or just through the lobby?

There's always the option of using Hamachi if we really can't get normal methods to work.

I tried both.

Another test which succeeded: I could join a MP game (through lobby - did not further test direct IP) on my LAN, hosted on my "second PC".

I cannot find any firewall settings on my network router, just the windows firewall on my PC, but in testing the "LAN" game, I also used the SoW-lobby, so I guess that also passes firewall etc?

I would like to test next, if from the installation of my "second PC" I can join a MP game. With Jonah I only tried joining from my main PC.

I guess it's the highscore.dat file.
