Well there's a world of games like this, Norb...almost all coming from the Total War series...however there's definitely nothing on this subject on the Civil War and that's granted.
I really hope the final product will be worth the wait and especially for you guys, that will be worth the trouble.

I'm sure plenty of people are feverishingly waiting for this title, not just me. Please, frap something we can see or put it on youtube! B)

I understand that there are many games out there sort of like this. But, and I certainly am biased, there is nothing that plays like this. Now when we play some more, I'll have some of the team write an article on the differences and compare and contrast the experiences of the two. Can't take my word as my experience in this is limited. But I really believe that this is a very new experience.

I have to agree, the Total War games are really not the same thing at all.

On the battlefield level what I love about the TotalWar games is that they model the flight characterisitic of each missle fired. The hit probablility was determined by the weapon used, the side of the individual soldier that the hit was received on (shield side or not), height factors and so on. In a lot of aspects it was a very complex system. The animation of the rampaging elephants in the Roman era was worth the price of admission itself.

I hate to rain on anyones parade but I've played the total war games for many years and in my opinion, the games engine on the previous total war games was based on melee combat which was not ideal for the age of gun powder the new modified engine is based on the old TW games engine.

Another great advantage with Gettysburg and previously TC2M was that you were able to control troops at a regimental, brigade, divisional and even corps level something that you could never do with the old total war games - or the new game.

I had a sneak preview in London last week of the new TW game and I have to say I think Gettysburg with multi player will have the edge maybe not on graphics (although I love the look and feel of what I've seen thus far) but I think it will edge away signifcantly on gameplay especially now with a new multi player facility.

Plus I think SEGA have a bit of a advantage in the cost of development (no disrespect intended to you guys here)

Just my opinion of course.

By the way the new TW game is £40.00 for a download version PLUS another £10.00 for the "special forces pack" (what!!!!!) and it needs internet connection to work - this is going to put people off.

Gettysburg looks like it will rock guys!!!!! http://www.norbsoftware.com/Portal/medi ... 50c47f.jpg[/img_size]

Thanks for sharing your first time xp. I have a few questions.

1. Starting pts for GB, Will they be on a historical bases or will they be Random on the map?

2.Will the maps be larger than TC2M?

3. How many players will be able to play GB?

4.If and when the times comes would there be an invite to those that have posted to be able to test the game with you?

1. sandbox is random, our scenario will be historical, except for our what-if, they will be based on our best guess

2. They can be, most will be a little larger, I know of one that is a lot larger, but it's now flexible.

3. don't know yet, 4 worked very well the other day, maybe I'll just leave it completely open and let the players find out the max

4. we post for testers and gather testers based our own criteria. Main points are: time to test per week, experience playing tc2m, machine, internet connection, x-factor which is whether or not we think you'll be a good fit, a recommendation from a current team member is the fastest way to get in, but as we get close to the end, we'll open the doors wider to try to squash as many bugs as possible. We just want people playing. Right now we are testing mp, so we only need a small team and we have that. Once we start testing scenarios, we'll need more people.

Appreciate your response :)

follow-up on #3 question. Since there were 4 of you and 1 of you got 30 fps what size units were you playing?? corps,Div,Brigade, regiment??

Did you play on a Server or from someone else pc?

Someone mentioned about maybe filming the game play and installing it on youth tube, that seems like a good idea, or somewhere were it would gather more interest??

We will be posting additional video on the game website and probably on YouTube as well. At this time, there is no central game server, it runs on player systems.

I was not part of the test, but most MP testing has been with Div sized battles. FPS is affected by graphics options on the map as well as the number of troops on the field. The fictional maps are very sparse graphically and have notably higher frame rates for the same battle size. These should allow someone with a slower system to play MP or sandbox battles with acceptable performance.
