Scourge of War Boards

After years of micro managing this game, I've decided to learn to control my units with the courier system, but am not having any luck. Apparently, I don't understand the logic of the available commands.

I start as a division commander, and want to move my brigades and batteries by road to a point on the map.

I press C, and then select the brigade commander, "move to", and have a choice of "use road" or "use roads for your unit".

I want him to move his unit, so I select "use roads for your units", and then select either "move to this map point" or "move to this location".

Then send the command.

The brigade commander then starts moving, and leaves his command behind.

Can someone tell me what I have missed?

An example of the order sequence is 'General A, Move to xxx farm, form your division into a line, use roads.'

You have to specify the unit formation unless you use MTG's courier and maps mod.

Yes, you didn't give the unit a formation to assume when you get there. In the HITS sub-section of this section is an AAR, stickied at the top, which will explain how to command troops using the courier system.

Where do I find the command "form your division into a line"? Although in this case its a brigade.

It isn't one of the orders availabe.

I can tell the brigade officer to have his men lay down, but I can't find any orders for formations.

there should be a whole section on formations - for brigade, division, batteries, etc.

click on the orders tab - it should be about 16 down, three under 'change facing'.

Change to this formation: then choose the formation you want Alternatively, if you use custom settings and set couriers to 'brigade and above' you can use the point and click buttons as normal and couriers will take your orders.

I didn't realize there were layers.

I have to click on "change to this formation" before I can access the next layer of commands for the division and brigades formations.
