How to Uninstall SOW after installing Chancellorsville?

Game won't run. Keeps crashing. Hopefully we won't get any posts here, but if we do, we'll try to help you out. You can also post any bugs that you find here. IMPORTANT: Don't post mod related problems here!

How to Uninstall SOW after installing Chancellorsville?

Post by rudy »

I want to uninstall everything and do a clean reinstall as things are a bit cluttered. For instance, I have about 753 GCM variant maps that I'd like to clear out.

But I'm a bit paranoid about deleting the folders, with past experiences of not being able to reinstall.

So, how do I uninstall everything so that I can start again?

It's not too evident when I start the game.

Why - not move everything to another folder if you feel that this may go the wrong way!

Once you do that use the Add \ Remove Program to uninstall SOW.

This should get rid of the Register entries, but I'm just guessing at this considering that I have never done it!

If any files are remaining - just manually delete them from Windows Explorer!

Basically - I don't think that the ADD\Remove will delete the mods.

Do I still have to deactivate the game before I uninstall it?

If so, how do I deactivate the game?

What davinci said. I have a /SOWbackup folder on my D drive that I move the entire mod folder to for safe keeping. Once you do that you can safely uninstall, verify via explorer that everything is gone, then regedit(don't touch regedit that if you are a novice, get help) If you have 1.5 installed I do not believe there is a deactivate function any longer. Make sure you have all your codes for reinstall.
Had a friend try this last night and he did not verify all files were gone. As a result when he reinstalled he still had data from the old install wasting much time. Just go slow step by step and all will be well.

Hey rudy,

Olszowy is correct, the Deactivate/Activate process has been eliminated.....

I have about 753 GCM variant maps that I'd like to clear out.
Go to your Mods folder and cut and paste to a safe backup location the folder named "GcmRandomVariants".

Job done.

Paste it back in when you decide you want to play those maps again.

Sorry about that, they were fun for MP but we don't need them anymore so if you ever reinstall GCM, don't worry -- they won't be there.
