Help Please - Cannot install the game ? Wierd?

Hello! Ages ago it seems I used to spend tons of time playing TC2M and now I aim to dive into Gettysburg and hopefully get my 13 year old son into it as well.

I downloaded v1.4 full install package, I run it and go through the full install routine and at the end I get the following error notice:

Installation completed

Scourge of War - Gettysburg v1.4 has not been totally installed because of the following
reason.

Base\Graphics\Packed\CA1F1.dds: This file contains invalide data. (error 21FC)

You will have to run this utility again to completely install Scourge of War - Gettysburg v1.4



No matter how many times I try to install the game, the above error is all I get. So at this point, SOW is a no go. My system specs should be plenty?

Try installing in the c: drive and not the c:/86 drive.

I thought I had... it defaulted to the C drive and it created a new directory on the C drive. How can I tell or make sure its not doing the wrong drive?

I tried a couple of more times and double checked that it is installing on the C drive. I make a jing video of the attempt, no sound but it shows the full install attempt.

A couple of things. Delete your installation(s). When you re-install accept the default, it's correct. Finally, disable your McAfee virus protection temporarily until after the installation is complete.

Ok - I deleted everything and then reinstalled it all from scratch. I did not tell it anything but just accepted all the default steps and settings. The installation all goes as one would expect, until the end when I get the exact same error notice originally posted.

I have no idea what is going wrong on this. Thanks for the help.

It could be you have a corrupt download of the game. Re-download the full 1.4 game and try again.

You can use the MD5 checker at the bottom of the page to make sure your download is not corrupted.

"MD5 checker at the bottom of the page" ? What is an MD5 checker? I see no such download here?

I did re-download the game file and did the installation from scratch with the new download, same result.

At least I get to find out that the game will not run on my pc before buying it, but bummed I cannot play.

and also the MD5 download. Download and then run the MD5 so you know if you have a corrupted download or not.

This weekend I had time to come back to this and try again.

I think I have it working - but not working. I did download the MD5 program and ran it - it installed some new protection software on my PC, now apparently I have 3 such programs installed. Great.

I re-downloaded the game and installed it, this time it did install correctly from what I can tell.

The problem is I had also downloaded the game to my laptop before when I could not get it working on my desktop. Now that do have it working on the desktop, the activation code does not work apparently because it was installed on the laptop and you only get 1 PC installation. GRRRRRRRR so now it is installed correctly, but we still cannot play against each other. Really? Only useable on a single machine?

Had I known that in order for my son and I to play against each other on the 2 computers I would have to purchase 2 different copies at full price, I would never have purchased the first one.

Any way to get a refund?
