I bought this game over 18 months ago mainly as I love to support independent game developers who seem to care about the users (very much like the guys here) Histwar I'll be honest was always a great concept but a bit of a dog when it first came out - lots of bugs and the graphics werent great but it did portray the epic'ness (if thats a word!)of the Napoleonic period.

Anyway a lot of patches and contributions from fans has led to a truely great game now.....Have a look at some of the screen shots

I recommend people having a good look at this game

Thanks for the link Zeke, I was involved in the forums during the development period of this game, years ago but when it was finally released I found it just too - odd - to satisfy me. But seeing the new graphic improvments in your link I am tempted to give it a second go when ver05 is released.

It looks much much better than the previous versions.

Hello 2nd Tx - I've been quite busy with work (which is never a bad thing these days!) - I've kept myself fairly busy (as have you I notice!)- I've nearly completed a Bull Run re-work scenario for TC2M which is almost complete (added some new sprites) and I'm doing a Bristoe station OOB pack which I will convert eventually for over here.....I might sometimes take a look down the river but I'll never abandon TC2M and SOW love the games too much!

and Hey Saddletank....certainly worth a look over the next few months some big improvements - I love the work you guys have been doing on the Napoleonic front here though....great stuff!

I played two PBEM recently for test the improvements of latest patchs. THe game improves about the bug situation anf graphically but:

the artillery is too much lethal, also at the maximum distance 12 pounder pieces do damages WWI style, with 20% of losses after 30 minutes under a single battery fire at maximum distance.

is absurd that in historical mode you have the delay for corps order but you can command in real time the single regiments

the most part of matches played in the actual status of game are frontal clashes of bombing, with little movements and delay limited not historical (is a delay pratically almost immediate, so surprise attack are pratically impossible).

and for last: pratically the 2d map is still more pratical than the 3d, so pratically you play in 2d, the 3d, improved ok, but is still no clear to use for orders.

Tank,

Au Contrar, Mon Ami - Your uniform informational content and historical references have added much to this most excellent mod. Pray, take a small bow for yourself. :)

Mitra76,

Great to hear from you but I'm afraid I don't really understand what you're trying to say.

Mitra - you are discussing Histwar I guess? My understanding of what your criticims are:

The long range artillery fire is too powerful.

There is an unwanted feature that in historical mode orders for corps suffer a delay but if you want you can send instant orders to each regiment.

The game engine produces mostly frontal slugging matches with little room to maneouvre. The way the game introduces delays in order transmission feels unrealistic and so surprise attacks are impossible.

Its so much easier to issue orders on the 2d minimap than the 3d battlespace that the game suffers in that you spend too long looking at the 2d map and not enjoying the 3d battle.

I played the demo about a year ago. It had promise but i just didnt get into it. Perhaps i didnt give it a long enough chance as it looks like a game that i should like and the modding tools are pretty good it seems. I do remember all the soldiers looking abit 'squashed' for lack of a better term and that did put me off a bit. It looks like the game has come on since then, so im prepared to give it another go if they have an updated demo.
