Can someone tell me what I need to set the settings to for headquarters in the saddle? Also if your playing as McClellan in the huge entire battle scenario can you issue orders to the AI via only courier?

I'll take a shot at this.

To play HITS set the option "Max Camera Distance From You" to 10 and "Orders by Courier at this Command Level and Above" to Brigade if you only want to communicate by courier.

Someone will correct me shortly if I'm wrong.

Correct. And make sure difficulty is at custom too, to let you play with custom settings.

If your playing as the head general on hits, yes you can only issue orders by courier, but dont neglect still using the toolbar and point and click methods, they also spawn couriers. Every order doesnt have to be given using the courier menu - just the complicated ones.

If your general is close enough to a unit he an give the orders directly, no courier is spawned, its referred to as 'shouting distance', and is a neat little feature.

The 10 yard radius is the lowest you can fix the view to using the options menu, but if you want an even tighter fixed viewing position, do this:

Open your Scourge of War - Gettysburg\Work folder. In there is a file called sowgb.ini. Open this (any text editor like notepad will do). Look for the section marked 'custom' (which will have been created when you checked the 'custom' setting in the game options. Edit the line:

plyrradius=10

to:

plyrradius=2

If you want a similar fixed POV in multiplayer, the HOST must also set:

MPplyrradius=2

Save and close the file.

You'll now have your POV as though it were true first person, fixed to the saddle of your horse.

Enjoy the realism and chaos of a first person army-level simulation!
