Question about fire support

Post by MikeCK »

Ok, here is the scenario. I am a brigade commander. When I send a courier to request " artillery support to my front" do I send it directly to the battery to my rear, my immediate division commander,to the corp commander to which all units are assigned, or the division commander who directly supervises the battery?

Mike,

You would send it to your Division Commander, who will evaluate it and either dispatch a message to the battery commander and provide it OR, in some cases, not do it and leave you to fight on your own. Timing during the battle will be a factor also. If everyone is engaged, the chances are slim you'll get amy support.
Good Luck. Generally, if your superior has the ability, you will get some kind of support.

Are you sending this message to an AI commander or another human? If it is the AI, send the message, "Request support", directly to the battery commander. If he is not currently engaged, he will move to your location and support you. Do not use any other message when asking for help from the AI, all the others are meant for human to human communication.
I can make this march and I will make Georgia howl.

Mike,

Yes, MTG is right. You didn't say if the Battery was attached to your Division or not. Send it directly to the Battery. Take a look once in awhile, (even while you are fighting for your life out there), and see if anything is happening.

Sorry..yes, the battery is attached to my division. Also, I am playing single player only. On a similar note, on the first Antietam scenario, I was commanding a brigade. As I was getting monkey stomped I looked back and saw another brigade from my division sitting in reserve while my position folded. Under the same logic, I would send a courier message "request support" directly to that brigade commander instead of our mutual division commander?

Correct. But it never hurts to send the request to both the division commander and the unit commander from which you want the aid.
