Very interesting, short bursts or I wonder if they held the final yell for longer?

Thanks for the link rebeltim!B)

Take that yell, and times it by.......at least a couple of hundred men, if not more, and I'll bet that would send a chill up your spine!

I know the Rebel yell was started at Bull Run. But did the orgins of the Rebel yell come from fox hunting, or the Native American Indians, or both? Anyone here know?

I remember the author Shelby Foote telling a story about the Yell in the series "The Civil war"(the Ken Burns film - which in my opinion is the best documentary ever made about the war)

Anyway a southern veteran who was in his late 80s was attending a ladies society dinner in the 1920s, one of the ladies asked him kindly if he would do a demonstration of the rebel yell he refused on the grounds that.... "it could only be done at a run,and couldn't be done anyway with a mouth full of false teeth and a belly full of food!!!!" ....Wonderful story.

The sad thing is we probably will never know for sure what the Yell sounded like. One thing is for sure it scared the devil out of the Federal troops for the whole four years of this epic struggle.

I've read that the sound came from the stomach and was based as stated in earlier posts on a hunting yelp possibly indian. I also read that different southern regiments had different yelps. Over in the Uk we had the famous Scotish highlanders(during the Jacobite Rebellion and earlier). They would do a similar thing when charging at government troops - I believe Scotish troops during the Napoleonic wars also carried on the tradition, scared the hell out of the french....well that and the kilts!!!! http://www.norbsoftware.com/Portal/medi ... d13e09.jpg[/img_size]

Thats for sure! It was said to be a cross between a Southern hunting howl and a YeeHaa!

I mentioned this in an earlier wish list for the new game that it'd be cool to have rebel yells and yankee 'huzzahs' during assaults. We'll see.

At any rate i played that rebel yell audio and it certainly got my black labs attention! My golden retriever mix coulda cared less!..go figure!!

Here you go. I adjusted the pitch on some of the voices to simulate men with lower/higher voices, mixed em around a bit.. It sounds pretty cool. :)

The sound of 200 rebels charging right at you!
