I must be doing something wrong, I guess. When I give a courier order to a unit commander, to move to this location, only he goes, and his troops stay behind! This is absurd! why would his troops not got with him?
Yet, when I click on that unit commander , not using the courier," and order troops to move, they all go with him! But I want to play courier, but not if unit commanders are going to move solo. that's bunk!
did I do something wrong, or is courier play bogus?
thanks again!
Annoying feature of courier play,
Re: Annoying feature of courier play,
Instead of clicking the Use Roads - choose the Use Roads All , or Units use roads, something similar.

The only true logic is that, there is no true logic!
Re: Annoying feature of courier play,
Read this thread (especially post 6, by MTG).

There are different ways of sending courier orders and they behave slightly differently as regards whether subordinates automatically go with their commander. I've just tried to find a thread where this was discussed but couldn't find it. Will link to it if I find it later.

Re: Annoying feature of courier play,
You have to tell him to go to a location and to use a formation, which his units will adopt upon arrival. Its the formation information that is vital.
HITS & Couriers - a different and realistic way to play SoW MP.
Re: Annoying feature of courier play,
If anyone could help a poor recruit out, ist would be much appreciated.
I usually can get troops to move where I want them via courier, but not artillery units.
I have tried most unit formations for artillery, but usually they just set up in that formation, and the leader rides off alone.
It doesn't make sense. if it's an Capt, commanding an artillery brigade, I should just be able to order, art brigade column by sections, " or whatever. Apparently I have used every combination execpt the correct one.
Isn't there some information there that explains how to do it?
previous thread did not.
thanks!

Re: Annoying feature of courier play,
I just read post 6 as was recommended and will try that. maybe the problem I was having is my last order was the point on the map, but it appears from post 6 that it should be the first in the sequence. otherwise I am not sure that # 1 to #5 are, I mean, when I move a brigade or larger unit, do they need to be told where to face before they move?
I find that there are only a few combinations of orders that I use in a typical battle. I write them all in one order.
Moving to a location (one order)
1. Move to the following location, (point on the map)
2. Face your unit in this direction
3. Change to this formation
4. Hold (Defend for a timid subordinate)
5. Use the roads (if not close to the destination)

Re: Annoying feature of courier play,
I get the officer active (click on his flag or click on his name in the OOB and click 'select and goto unit'), then usually bring up the command map with the N key and click on it (or click on the terrain where I want him to go), then click the unit formation which is vital.
As others have said elsewhere if the guns are in action they will almost never move so you need to take command of the battery commander. I then do 'limber guns', 'go here', 'use this formation' and they'll go.
