CommandHeight - Need this feature back into the game.

Post by Davinci »

Hey, I asked this question about two years ago, and the conversation turned to other features such as the H.I.T.S feature, and some other feature that I can’t remember.

But, can the CommandHeight be placed back into the game, that allows the user to set a certain height in the ini file that would keep the camera at the ground level.

A player shouldn’t have to constantly adjust the height back to the ground every-time there is a change of camera view.

The middle-mouse-wheel in my opinion is used more than any other button in this game.

I’m only talking about the CommandHeight that was used in the previous game, and no other feature that this will probably turn to.

If I understand your question correctly, the setting in the INI is the same thing as setting the camera height in the options.

Yes, that is correct!

So, are you stating that this is already in the game?

If so, what is the exact setting?

In the previous game the setting was CommandHeight=8 - which would never allow the camera to go above the ground level, or the height of the men.

This has never worked with this game to my knowledge.

In the options, the setting is "Max Camera Distance from you". The default is zero which is unlimited, 10 is HITS. It's a global setting that affects all game modes.

OK, I think that this is the same thing that yourself and Norb was saying roughly two years ago, and I didn't understand it!

Is there a way of setting this to 7 or 8 instead of 10 , ten is slightly above the height of the men?

I'm trying to keep the camera at the height of a person standing on the ground.

Thanks,

No 10 is the minimum. It is slightly above head level of a mounted officer.

OK, Thanks...

This is the line that seems to control this setting #optplyrradius=10 .

The problem here is that this is really not the same thing that was in the previous game.

The previous game would allow the player to control two different settings if I remember correctly.

1) CommandHeight - the height of the camera at all times that would follow the elevation of terrain.
2) Camera Radius - the distance that the camera would allow the player to move forward\back\l\r.

This current feature seems to lock the camera slightly above the player, which is basically the same thing as using the F-Key , or the Follow-Mode.

Not, really what I'm seeking, but thanks for the response!

No prob, I'll get it in our system. Maybe something we can slip in a patch at some point where you can adjust those settings in the ini.

Davinci, what we in the HITS MP group do is go into the SOWGB.ini file and under [Custom] set these values:

plyrradius=2
MPplyrradius=2

That puts your viewpoint in the saddle of the officer you are commanding, but there is no way to divorce the height of the camera from how far laterally it can be moved.

The game allows the camera to move in a 3-dimensional radius around your command officer. Setting 'plyrradius' to 0 gives a fully free camera but setting it to any number gives you a radius in 3 dmensions of that distance. Unfortunately the game does not let you only set a height.
HITS & Couriers - a different and realistic way to play SoW MP.

10 yds is as low as you can go using the options screens. We've been playing at 2 yds though, which you can do by modifying the following file:

Gettysburg\Work\SOWG.ini (configeration settings) under Custom heading, change 10 to 2 in both plyrradius and MPplyrradius.

[Custom],,,,,,,
ailvl=0
moralelvl=0
regstrength=100
plyrradius=2
courierlvl=4
minimap=4
MPplyrradius=2
MPcourierlvl=4
MPminimap=4

It's much more realistic (and fun, in our view).

Sudden thought though. Is there any way this might have contributed to our MP/courier game freezes?
