im still labouring through the second brigade tutorial.
ive noticed on a few occasions that units tend to flicker on and off ie dissapear briefly.
this was not a problem untill i got to my position after the initial fight with the small brigade.
i managed to get most of my troops more or less in the right place with no sight of the rebs when suddenly they all appeared right in front of my units like 10 scale feet away as if transported in from the starship enterprise! i was unaware there was a 'displacement shield' button on the command bar.
so i reloaded the tutorial and tried again.this time the rebs didnt appear at all! i even sent a regiment into the woods and nothing. now im all for a hard fight fellows but this is ridiculous!cheers

Re: odd graphics problem
It is probably 'line of sight'.
If they are hidden in a depression, or in woods, or both, you wont see them until they are right on top of you. As you gain and lose sight of them they will flicker like that.
Night time lowers visibility too.

Re: odd graphics problem
but should the sprites flicker on and off as im looking directly at them? cheers
Re: odd graphics problem
I would agree with the above post this is probably a-line-of-sight issue. The game can't calculate what you are seeing, only what the men on the battlefield can see.but should the sprites flicker on and off as im looking directly at them? cheers
The next time that you notice this, Save the game , and then click on the unit that you feel has a direct line of sight, click the F Key twice which should place your camera position at ground level.
Now, can you see the units that are flickering?
davinci
The only true logic is that, there is no true logic!
Re: odd graphics problem
Depending on the difficulty level - if none of your men can see them - you wont be able to see them. If they're going through wooded terrain, the flicker is very common.
It doesnt calculate line of sight from the players positino, but your men. So you can move you camera wherever you like at higher difficulty levels and you wont see anything more.
I have no idea about the difficulty levels for tutorials though..
Edit - what he said:)

Re: odd graphics problem
ok chaps that sounds about right.i keep forgetting that just because im flying about like superman my poor men aint! and after the 5th try i got through the 2nd brigade tutorial and got a 'fight was inconclusive'!
oh really?i ended up with my general stood on a mound with his two remaining regts fighting in what turned out to be a rally square with 7(!)regts of rebs pounding the crap out of them,my other regts broken and flown with the wind.i survived only because i think the timer ran out.if thats 'inconclusive'getting beats really going to hurt! damn this is a good game! cheers
