Courriers & Mods
I downloaded the Chickamauga OOB mod this morning and installed it ok. Good to see boys from Kansas and Missouri in action for a change.
I fought a sandbox action on the Alpine map. This was fine except that I was unable to get couriers to work. Ran several tests using the message system, but my subordinates resolutely failed to respond, unless I just moved within sight of them and gave then orders by clicking on their flag. If I did that, a courier rode over and they responded immediately.
It may not be down to the mod. Have now uninstalled it but the couriers still don't work in either basic game scenarios or sandbox. I'm fairly sure the last time I played, couriers worked fine.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any ideas of what I can do short of a full reinstall? I have Pipe Creek installed and am patched to 1.3010 btw.

Re: Courriers & Mods
I would check your options. Make sure you have the couriers set at the right level. If you want full couriers, you'll set it to Brigade.

Thanks for quick reply LP. Have checked in Options and I do have couriers set to 'Brigade'.
Any other ideas?

Re: Courriers & Mods
one of the last patches changed the way you give orders slightly, you cant just say 'move your unit to x' you have to give a formation for them to take upon arrival.
so division general a, move your unit to mcphersons ridge, form into division double line, use roads.

Thanks Connor. Yes, I do all that, and it normally works fine. Just not at the moment for some reason. If no-one comes up with any other suggestions today, looks like I'll have to reinstall everything. Bit of a pain but not the end of the world.

Re: Courriers & Mods
ok a few more things to check before you try the reinstall. im sure you have checked these but just in case..if it's a custom OOB maybe there is something there causing a problem with the courier system, chain of command issues or something like that.
- you do in fact have control of the troops you are ordering (as in they arent another generals subordinates). If you can give them order by clicking then they probably are yours.
- make sure youre using the division formations for divisions, and the brigade formations for brigades. I have never checked if this make a difference, but just in case.
- a recent patch made the time always default to the current time, fixing the old problem, but make sure your time in the courier menu hasn't got altered and its keeping that.
Does a courier leave you and go to the general? Does the general move but not the unit?
one thing you could try, is download the couriers and maps mod, if a csv for couriers file has been corrupted it might fix your problem and its a handy mod to have, i use it.

Re: Courriers & Mods
Yes a courier goes to the general. I've ordered both him to move personally, and also his unit to move. But neither occurs.
Thanks again. I'll work my way through your list B)

Re: Courriers & Mods
the fact it worked before makes me think something has been ciorrupted somewhere, try the mod before putting yourself through the hassle of a reinstall. if you like courier play, the mod is a must have anwyay!
I would link you it but I cant see it in the mod list...

Re: Courriers & Mods
Problem appears to be solved. Couldn't find an issue elsewhere, so went into the 'Time & Date' tab. That looked ok too, so made no change. However since I did so the courier system is working, for both standard game & mods. So perhaps you're right that something was corrupted, and that's all it took to reset it?
I will check-out the Courier mod though, if I can find it. I always use couriers, and so do my friends when we have an MP game, so it sounds right up our street. What does it do that the basic system doesn't, and is it applicable to both SP & MP?
Thanks again for your help.

Glad it worked out!
Found the link

The mod orders the courier menu differently so it is easier to find things you want, and adds in some functions that hadnt been implemented and a few other changes.
Theres a HITS section in the command and staff school if you have any quesions on it. Also look up this one, just a bit of eye candy, makes the message more old timey looking
