Random maps

We're not in Kansas anymore.

Kansas is a random map now with forests, fields and stone walls that will be different for each battle.

To play it in GCM, everyone will need to run the launcher before the battle to get the current map. The updates are quick, just 200kb. I'll generate a new one regularly, maybe every day, or before a battle if I'm there.

Your original Kansas will be backed up so you can change back when you don't want to play GCM.

The maps are not really elaborate yet, just a bunch of random forests and fields, since I just started it last night. I intend to make them feel more natural. Suggestions will be helpful.

Here are some examples:

Would be better if I didn't get an out of memory crash when I change the heightmap.

So what are the chances of this becoming a mod on the stock game?

When you run the Launcher it will replace your kansas map with the current random map. So there's no reason it can't be played singleplayer, and it can be played without the MP_GCM mod.

These are a lot of fun. Enough woods that even with commander scouting you can sneak up sometimes. Just had a game with Harmon, we were both heading down the same road to a field in the middle, I only saw two of his regiments, and suddenly three brigades emerge from the woods! I fell back up to a field that had a good place for my artillery and brought in reinforcements to the flank. We were able to push the flank back while their support would have had to cross my guns field of fire to help.

Garnier - How did you change the ground terrain from brown to green?

I never could figure that out, or are you using another map?
