At long last - and with some anxiety on my part! - I was able to have my first MP battle. Thank you to NYCav for spending part of his afternoon with me, showing me how to stumble through the MP lobby etc. The TS server was a great help as well, but NY Cav is both knowledgeable and patient.
It was a sandbox, "go to hell and hunt for 'em" or something like that. heh. I had Hood's Division from Longstreet's I Corps and he had 12th Corps; balanced as to artillery etc. So the battle opens and my division is essentially strung out in a line in some light woods, somewhere near G'burg, and I'm supposed to find the Union forces and defeat them ... then I get a message telling me to hold where are am ... fortunately, I'd already decided to do that as my skill at moving around brigades is right near the bottom. Moved a couple of batteries in the direction opposite from the one I thought he'd be coming from and moved one brigade up behind them. Well, he sort of came from that direction, only about 90 degrees to my left. Since I have the damndest time moving my artillery as a battery, I simply TC'd the individual guns and moved them a bit to where I though they might be able to bear on his guns and/or infantry. Robertson's Brigade was my right, Benningson's my left with Laws and Anderson in the center. Robertson's and Benning's beat their Union rivals and I fed the reserve regiments of those into the fight on the flanks while Anderson and Laws simply chewed up his center. Once I'd committed them to their positions in my line - and much of that was already done in the set up, I just refrained from any radical changes of position - the AI Brigade CO's took over as well as the AI battery commanders in my gun batteries. A double envelopment and his center collapsed. I don't recall - and didn't have enough sense to 'screen print' - the faux newpaper page and its level of victory, but I do recall that I gathered 1667 points, whatever that's worth. Next battle, I'll have to remember to do that as well as write down some of it.
Haven't had this much fun since my last battle using the CM:Barbarosa program for WW2 East Front armor battles. :cheer: My thanks again to NYCav for setting it up and for his helpful patience. :woohoo: One practical question: I noticed that it was difficult to hear him on TS once we were in-game; should I raise the volume of my input on TS?

Re: My First MP Battle
Give it a shot. I think there a few volume options in the settings, one to lower the game volume when someone's talking etc.should I raise the volume of my input on TS?
Glad you enjoyed your first MP game. SOWGB MP is truly unique, there's nothing else out there like it (or as fun).
