Newbie Qs - Using Mods (Just Xtra Scenarios)

Apologies for FNG Qs - but I have looked through the manual and the boards for answers to these and really didn't find any that really apply, so here goes...

1. Do I get into problems (or have the potential for causing software conflicts) if I have multiple mods turned on at the same time? I think the only ones I've got are for some of the extra scenarios, lets see (Bonus Scenarios, Brigade Scenario Pack, NSD Sample 1, Historical_Scenarios_Mod).

The reason for asking Q1 is that I don't know if what I'm seeing is simply because I'm new and still learning to control the forces, or if some of the peculiarities I see in the game behavior is a result of having 4 scenario mods all turned on at the same time.

Case in Point (Feel free to chime in and let me know if these are simply newbie issues and are just a case of inexperience)...

[Caveat: I usually TC the commanders from the top down, to control the forces myself - still learning how to maneuver them]

In quite a few scenarios, when I tell a group of units to go somewhere (usually in some sort of combat formation), they do wierd stuff on their own like automatically 'Use Roads' or 'Double Time' without me telling them to - which I've got to repeatedly de-select. (I thought I understood that, if the distance is signficant, they automatically shift to columns, correct?)

So - is the automatic 'use roads' (which throws them into columns and has them marching willy-nilly into enemy fire) or automatic invoking of 'double time' (which would seem to unnecessarily exhaust them) normal game behavior? Currently, I have to watch closely after I tell them to go somewhere to make sure that neither of these stupidities occur.

Thanks for the reads and replies, in advance.

Regards all. LOVE the game. Even for a beginner and certainly no history buff, it is WONDERFUL. Been waiting a long time for this (since Sid Meiers Gettysburg! wouldn't play well, or without GREAT difficulty and hair pulling, on newer machines.)

You're not going to have a problem with the different scenario mods. Where you run into trouble with conflicts is when you use the various what I call Interface mods. These are ones which mod the toolbar, graphics, etc.

As far as the AI goes, what you experience is normal. It's called Artificial Intelligence for a reason. It's the best in the industry IMHO but has it's limitations, hence the TC. I encourage you to research the forum for different issues with the AI. There's a ton of posts on pathing, couriers, and just about anything else about this game. It's a very active board.

Hope this helps. Feel free to ask if you have more questions. Lots of people willing to help here.

Thanks - Particularly for the quick reply. I'll dig some more on the AI behavior - Good to know all is ok (though it is driving me a little buggy). Regards.

Yeah. It's like herding cats sometimes, chasing those units and commanders around. However there are a number of commands which will help you in that regard.

B is correct, the anomalies you see are the AI reacting and doing. The running will occur when a unit is hit by cannon fire, or possibly long range muskets...they auto run to escape the peril, or sometimes they will instead take cover, lie down. The auto road march happens unless you TC the brigade commander, as he may opt this through the AI.

Scenario packages selected together should not conflict as mods, unless they contain and use OOBs altered and named the same as the stock OOBs.

Even with my B&F mod, whereas I customize to the extreme, and offer customized scenarios, most external scenario offerings can be played along with it and not have conflicts.

So far, LP and I are keeping our releases clean from conflicts, we will continue same... :)
:P Except I out bloodied his BloodSplatter  , with my BloodBath  ...but then, that's just choice, your option. ;)

This game can be at times very frustrating and THAT is one of the things that makes it great. It can and will recreate the emotions, both good and bad, you've only read about in history books.

I ordered that brigade to move, why aren't they moving!!! Oh, there they go finally. Or they don't move at all.

Why is that colonel double quicking his regiment. They need to be fresh when they get to the assigned position. Damned fool!

Who gave that regiment orders to retreat? I told them to hold that ground.

Oh yeah, recreating history is not pretty.
