Is this good ground?

"I hope to God that this is good ground. Is this good ground, General? Is this a place to have an army? Very good ground, sir."
The following is a TC2M observation that may carry over to Ge..oops, I mean "the new game".
When you select a position on the minimap for your commander/unit to move to and double click on that location, you are automatically taken to that spot on the field giving you an advance look at the terrain, which in reality you shouldn't be seeing until you actually arrive there. The question is..should you be allowed to "cheat" by seeing the terrain before you should realistically be seeing it, i.e. not until you actually arrive there with your troops. Any thoughts?

My first instinct is to say no. At least not in MP. That wouldn't be realistic.

Good observation AJ, but they would of had some sort of scouting party out in front to be able to have an idea of what kind of terrain was ahead. They wouldn't of known exactly but they would of had an idea, but I agree with you, you shouldn't be able to zoom to where your commander is going.

In the saddle with binoculars
What if it's not in your line of sight?

But we're in a game situation here. What if you haven't sent your cavalry to that area yet? Even if you had scouts in that area, they could describe the area or make you a map but you wouldn't have physically seen it for yourself.

I think that there should be levels: For Easy, you see the terrain, for normal, if your troops haven't been there, you don't know what it looks like, and for hard, you have to have been there to see it.

If we are talking about game situations, then how it is set up now is correct. You shouldn't be able to see the enemy units in front of you, unless you have line of sight, but you should be able to see the terrain. Unless
norb wants to incorporate some sort of terra incognita.

Goes back to my idea of commanders frequently sending updates on which units they are battleing, where they have been, etc.

and then there's the Geezer setting, where you can't remember what anything looks like after you've been there, and your officers' names change to the names of your children/pets...
