Couriers stopped working

I have been playing this game since it came out off and on so I have a decent idea about what I am doing but am not 100% sure this is a bug. Ok...first, I have this problem with both vanilla and using the courier mod 1.20.
I send a courier message to a divisional commnader that states the following: General so and so, change to this formation:division road column, move your unit to this map location (I pick a location), use the roads when possible, face your unit to the west, change to this formation: line, hold.
The courier takes off and arrives at the general. I get a pop up of the message indicating that it has been delivered...but the general does nothing. So, i send a simpler message : general so and so..change you unit to this formation: double line.
again...nothing.
What was weird is that it was working in a sandbox game and all of a sudden...it stopped working???? I couldnt get anyone to respond. Now I can contol them from te hscreen butons but not by wrtitten orders. Any ideas?

This is just the fog of war thing that some folks really find appealing. Many times officers will not respond immediately to orders, they hesitate, if you will, for sometimes up to 20 minutes. It depends on their personality and experience. Drives me crazy, this is why I opt out of courier play, among other 'too slow paced' reasons.

Hmmm, Ok. I had never noticed it happening before....at least, not in basic stuff like "change formation". Plus, I had tried it with various leaders...nobody moved. pLus, if I use couriers but not written messages (i.E. click on general, click on location, selct formation and watch the courier ride off), once the courier arrives, the general repsonds immediately.

With the Fog of War aspect built in, these things are tough to test. I avoid this area of testing because I don't have all day to wait around for a courier response. If you want immediate response, every time, then get a following to option out this Fog of War delay thing. Otherwise, be prepared to wait...and enjoy waiting. :woohoo:

alrighty..I'll take your word that it is WAD....maybe I will try as confederate with Division commanders like Hood and such to see if I can get a quicker reaction.

I know, propose a 'firing squad' unit. If an officer does not respond to you liking, have the courier fetch the firing squad detail, detain the officer, line 'em up...shoot him. For the rest of the battle, his replacement and the other commanders will respond immediately.

I've grown to like the idea of a firing squad. But I would settle for a summary execution. A single bullet to the back of the head would do nicely.

In my Open Play games, I have never had a courier order not to be obeyed, and executed at that moment, and if by some chance that it does happen, it means that I forgot to click the time.
The first thing that you do is click on the time display within the courier message screen.
Then issue the various orders that you want the officer to execute.
This somehow activates the courier, and the officer to move at this moment, when he receives the message.
All of my Open Play games are played by moving all of my forces ( i.e....Nineteen Brigades) by courier, it is only after they arrive at the front-lines ,that I Take Command of them and move them into battle.

Hey D, just tested this and looks like that's it. Courier play not being my forte, I missed this one somewhere along the line. I asked about this in another thread and a reliable source steered me to believe that the delayed response and movement was normal according to personality and experience. I'll test this more but it appears now that you nailed it. However, yet another step to include in this courier scheme. I would only consider this form of play if the orders could be sent in packets of sorts, to eliminate so many steps. Anyway, thanks a bunch, now I can steer folks on a more accurate path along this courier play route.

Perhaps these couriers stopped to have a spot of tea?..........Or maybe some of that fine "appropriated Pennsylvania Whiskey"! :woohoo:
