Scenario Design 101: Setting up the scenario.csv file in 10 easy Steps
Posted: Sun Jul 17, 2011 10:18 am
This discussion will include a simple step by step process on how to build a scenario.csv file, known also as the scenario oob file, because technically it is, an oob. Once this is set up using the included scenario files, the end result will be a fully functioning scenario, created by you. No previous knowledge of oob structure is necessary, nor will it be necessary for this build.
1) Open your Work/Keyboard file. At the bottom of the sheet, enter the following in the first three cells:
Setup Scenario oob, 3, dumpoobscen
If 3 is already in use, choose another key to initiate this command,
Save and close.
2) Open the game and go to Sandbox. Select US side, Gettysburg map, and OOB_SB_Gettysburg_Day_1.
Select your desired unit, big or small. Boxes on the right need not be altered. Start sandbox game.
3) Once game is loaded and playing, key 3. Exit game and resign.
4) Go to Work/Scenarios/ScenSave/scenario
Rename scenario to scenario1. Leave folder open.
5) Repeat steps 2 and 3 but this time choose a CS unit.
6) It should be open but just in case, go to Work/Scenarios/ScenSave/scenario
Rename the new scenario to scenario2. You now have scenario1 and scenario2...open them.
7) Open the scenario.csv in the included My Scenario/Scenarios/GB00-July1-My Gettysburg Scenario (Army) folder.
8) Copy US units from scenario1 and paste under Master... in the scenario file.
9) Copy CS units from scenario2 and paste under Union Courier... in the scenario file.
10) Save. Open game, open Modifications, enable My Scenario, check use selected mods, go to User Scenarios, find GB00-July1-My Gettysburg Scenario (Army) ...AND PLAY...your very own scenario. This is designed for selected play, so choose your unit, either side.
This should serve as a first step to scenario design. Also included are the various files with examples of what scenarios are comprised of. The battlescript file has all the 1st day's scripting I'm using for my next big release, Gettysburg 3Days Campaign. To use any of these lines delete the first column cell and shift the cells left. Also included in the scenario config settings file are sunset and sunrise settings, but may only work with the next patch. In addition, in this file note that AI=1, this makes the AI smarter, and they will attack anything that moves. If you add battlescript commands, it should be changed to AI=0, otherwise the scripting is negated.
Hope this encourages more folks to build scenarios. It's my passion, and there can't be too many scenarios...so build them, and they will play.
