Victory Points

Hi guys,
I'm sure this has been covered before but I'm throwing it out again anyway. I've started playing the Champion's Hill Scenarios. Did well enough as the Yankees attacking up the hill. Now I'm up to the 10th scenario with SD Lee's Confederate Brigade. Now I'm defending the crossroads at the top of the hill. I have a gold star at the crossroads behind me and Barton's Brigade on my left and Cumming's Brigade on my right who I am to support. Now I have 5 regiments and about 2,500 men. In order for me to light up the star red I have to detach my 3 biggest regiments and leave them forward and then hold the crossroads with Lee and the 2 smaller regiments further back say 400 yards. There are 2 Confederate artillery units, (not under my control), at the crossroads. The Yankee force is much larger than Confederates. Now given all this what I would have liked to have done is held my full brigade forward, supported where needed fought a delaying action and withdrew in good order to the crossroads and made my stand there. What the game forced me to do was divide my inferior force and deny my forward troops their leader bonus as I had to stay at the crossroads with the 2 smaller regiments to keep the star red.
Given that we suspect that delaying actions are going to be a part of the new game, I would like to see the defensive VP scoring reconsidered. If I have to defend a point on a map I should not have to actually occupy that specific point in it's defense. That takes much of the strategy out of the game. If the game is an hour long and I can keep an adversary distracted for an hour, it should not matter that I'm not within 200 ft/yds of a specific spot on the battlefield, it should only matter that my enemy hasn't gained that location. If I can really jam an enemy up along a road/woods/fences far in front of the defensive VP then all the better. Buford didn't keep anyone on Seminary Ridge early in the morning on the first day of Gettysburg even though he intended on winding up there in the afternoon. He was way out on Herr Ridge and then fell back to McPhearson's Ridge and then Seminary Ridge and then finally Cemetery Ridge. I would suggest that if a defensive VP is behind your lines and you are between it and the enemy then it is in fact defended until the enemy occupies it. Now with that said, I really love the Champion's Hill Scenarios. The map is great, lots of dips and depressions within the elevation, and the battles so far seem to fully mirror the actual battle history. Great job.
Regards,
Greg
