Maybe I'll watch this Gettysburg special. I was excited when The History Channel came into being. Then it went bonkers with all the crap about truckers and other such none history junk. They, the producers and writers, could do so much with history. They screw it up with a bunch of nebobs running the show, and political correctness police, and down right falsifiers. They should spend a few bucks on quality and content not fluff and boring documentaries. The Internet Movie Data Base has so many young talented movie producers You can hire a dozen of them to get history right and intertaining at the same time. Just my thoughts and opinion on my experience with the "History Channel".

RD, I`ve noticed that myself with the History Channel. I am a history buff, but when I watch some of the programs the HC puts on, I cringe. I often wondered just how much time they put into researching the given subject. I find so many blatant errors, that it puts me in the mind of a schoolboy who tried to do all his research for a month old project, on a Sunday night, and it was due the next morning. They do History more harm than good in a number of subjects, and the Civil War is one of them. Movies sometimes are just as bad, when they write scenes that never took place just to embellish a true Civil War battle, like Gettysburg.

Just looked through it.
Wow. Oh, Wow. That was.. unspeakably awful.
Looks like Gettysburg was fought by about 30 skirmishers per side. It's weird. The look of the "documentary" is polished and a lot of visual effects are used. Still, there are maybe a couple of shots where they use cgi to even try and do something that looks like a mass of troops instead of a few men running one way or the other.
Also, I appreciate that they skirt around things the average viewer knows after watching the killer angels movie, but if someone who doesn't know anything about the battle watches this "documentary".. whoo boy.
I really can't recommend avoiding this enough.

I felt the same way. You never got a sense of the scope of the battle. I'm going to watch Gods and Generals tonight. Someone recommended it to me. Don't know if it' any good.

Better than that Gettyburg thing. Helps to have much better source material to work with.
