HA! New Computer Time!!!!!!!!!!

Post by Jack ONeill »

Brothers,

Finally, The Gods have smiled upon me and blessed me with gainfull employment. Out here in CA that is no mean feat. (Official unemployment rate - 12.5%. REAL rate is very close to 20%.)
Anyway, am heading out to look at new computers TODAY. It appears I will have to use Windows 7 as the operating system. Please post any thoughts or comments regarding how well this GLORIOUS GAME will run on Win 7. Also, any problems that may have cropped up. Thanks to you all.

P.S. - Another thing.

Norb/Team, how much of a pain is this going to be to transfer all the game stuff over to the new computer?

Thanks.

Jack,

I bought a new computer when SOW came out. And I must say that Windows 7 has been very good so far.
No SOW related issues that I know of.

Great News!

I haven’t heard any bad news related to the new Windows 7, it appears to be a step up and away from Vista, probably what Vista should have been!

Keep several things in mind before buying a new computer.

Get as much Ram – as possible – DDR3

Don’t get any Computer that has – internal \ on-board Graphic’s

Try getting one that already has at least a – 450 watt Power Supply

You really can’t go too off track with those things in mind!

G - Thanks. No shit, huh. Been forever.

DaV,

Yes. Small RAM is what is killing me right now. Very much understand the Graphics issue. However, I will say I have run across a decent Dell with great specs. Has an ATI Radeon 4200 HD card as its onboard card. I have a lot of experience with ATI cards so, maybe? Will do A LOT of research before I buy one.

Thanks all.

Here is a little bit of information about your card!

This is what I have in my system!

Now my system is roughly three years old, so your system will be quite faster than mine!

I can run approximately 18,000 men per army, and stay above the slow-down phase!

But, my Graphics Card is probably the reason for this – I’m running a Quad Q6600 – with 3GB of Ram – but the ram is DDR2.

This one is on-sale, so as soon as I get up the courage to change the Power Supply – I’ll buy this one! This one is basically twice as fast!

I develop on Win7 and it works great, no issues at all. I bought an HP computer with the processor I wanted, then I upgraded the RAM and card on my own.

Roger that to you both. Checked out the comp I was looking at. The card is okay but only a 256. Obviously that won't work. We all know we need 512's at a minimum. The card will be the sticking point, but I have a great source around the corner for custom-built comps. Will go in there tomorrow and check it out. Also, Micro-Center down the freeway a bit always has great deals on various comps.

AHA! The game's afoot!

That's great news Jack!

Not to hijack your thread, but would anyone know if a 500 Watt power supply be able to handle a 1GB video card?
