After Battle Discussion

I figure we ought to have a thread where after any battle we can post without having to start a new thread.

So in Battle 490, I'm guessing another freeze?

Yeah. . . about 40 minutes or so into the game. 13 players, was shaping up into an interesting fight. Kester had rushed into the Weikert Farm woods, Parker in support. Barlow, sspoom, Boles and myself attacked. Parker and Kester ended up running away and were almost cut off. When the game froze, they were all the way back on the west side of Bliss Farm.

Initial hard fighting, then pursuit for the rest of the game, until it froze.

Actually, it was Kester and Cleburne who were falling back on our left. Parker was sorta in the middle of the line, trying to organize things while the two brits were running and squealing like girls. In the confusion, I managed to steal Adler's ammo wagon and knock over his commander's horse.

I am going to have to put something in to log these freezes. We have a log file, but it gets way too big. Maybe I can just save the last lines of the log, something to show where the problem occurred. As you can imagine, it's hard for us to debug what happens 40 minutes into a 13 player game. But it should not freeze. Usually it's one players connection, happens a lot when people play on wireless, but in that case just that person should drop and the game should continue. I need better error recovery in there.

General, it was,
The union left was anchored just west of the Town and the right touched the edge of map to the south.
Really nice to see and partake in.Ran very smooth and i think was alot of fun for all!Lots of blood soaked ground in the most appropriate of spots......

For battles that big, we really need bigger maps. Alpine would be big enough, but I hate the fact that you need to hire a group of Sherpas to help you climb most of the hills. When your battle line can stretch from map-edge to map-edge, and contact is made literally within 2 minutes, it takes away a lot of the finer points of the game, like maneuvering, flanking and surprise attacks. Hopefully, a bigger map or two will be available soon. The MP community has definitely gotten large enough to where these large games will become more and more frequent.

All I can do is add Alpine, which I've just done, along with Kansas. I completely agree that even six maps is not nearly enough considering the volume of games being played now, and there's no reason to think it won't keep growing. Even a few more maps wouldn't change that much after a few weeks of playing on them every day. What we need is to be allowed to make our own maps, then there will be no shortage. I think we all agree on this but it's up to Norb.

I know we can't make our own maps, but can't we mod existing maps? If so, and it's beyond my limited computer abilities, can't someone just make Alpine rolling hills instead of massive peaks?

Or do I not know of what I speak?
