Hard Fighting

My boys are tired -- real tired. But they fight on.

Through 24 battles (15 as Union, 9 as Confederate), I've taken 15,314 casualties, and dished out 17,138.

If you haven't tried out Garnier's Campaign, you should. We play games most every evening and new divisions make up for their lack of experience with superior numbers.

Some battles turn into long-range artillery duels, and some into bitter, bloody melees, but all have been fun.

Just did a little photo-shoot since I had a savegame from battle 113.

Here Participant is attacking up Benner's hill against Cleburne's troops at the top. You can see Hays' Union division in the background as it prepares to attack our right flank.

Backing up from that shot, here are more of Cleburne's troops holding Benner's hill. You can see Snell's Federals facing my rebs in the low ground closer to Gettysburg. We had some brief sharp fighting there. I rushed two regiments into an orchard to occupy a stone wall against some of Snell's tiny veteran regiments. It worked OK, but 18 Federal guns just outside Gettysburg were hitting me in the flank, so I had to pull out pretty quickly. I also tried rushing my two 24pdr howitzers to that wall, but they pushed the guns into the creek for some reason and the gunners all got shot in a matter of seconds. Silly boys.

In case anyone was wondering the Confederates won that battle, myself included.

We did, but you and I on the left didn't get to help much unfortunately. Victory was mostly Parker's.

To point something out in case anyone is wondering why their experience goes down even when they don't get recruits:

When men are wounded or missing, their experience is remembered, and when they return it is merged back into the regiment. So a regiment that lost a lot of wounded men when they were still green, will lose some of its average experience as these green wounded men return to join the veteran survivors.
