Washed-out graphics

Every time I start up SoWG, I'm surprised again by how gray and washed out the terrain looks. I know that the days of the battle were overcast and humid, but there seems to be a fog on the ground more appropriate to late fall than summer. The grass, which ought to be green in July, looks more dead and gray.

Sometimes I see screenshots where the terrain looks more alive than what I see on my computer, and I wonder if there's something I can tweak in my graphic settings to help. I see that there are darker and lighter tree mods out there--is that what people are using? But I'm really noticing how dull the grass itself looks.

I know the graphics in SoWG are meant to look more like a Civil War painting than the crisp, gamey look of TC2M, and I do get that painted look when I zoom out. Zooming in, though, I feel as if things are still hazy where they should be sharp.

Does anyone else notice this? Can I do anything to improve it?

(I'm playing at 1366 x 768 on a laptop with an ATI Mobility RADEON HD 4330.)

The game does have a gray, dreary look to it. I personally like the look, gives it a sort of dark depressing feel that is appropriate for the Civil War.

There's no mod to make the grass greener, but but you can try to bump up your Antia and Anso to make things a little clearer.

In the sowgb.ini found in the work folder, set those two options to a higher number. For example:

[Initialization]
Full Screen=1
Screen Res=0
AntiA=16
Anso=16

Indeed, I too notice this. I actually like it. It reminds me of my years in the midwest. All that humidity in the summer would make things look very hazy. Even on sunny days, the sky would be white! When I zoom in on the hazy hills in the game, with the sound of the cicadas in the background, I really get the feeling of being in the east. I don't know if tweaking the settings on your graphics card would change things, but that would be the place to start.

Good to hear! Yeah, I remember when Norb put that in the code. A reviewer suggested it because he noticed the screen shots looked better than the actual game. :)
