Experimenting with the Lo-Res Uniforms

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

Experimenting with the Lo-Res Uniforms

Post by Davinci »

Hey, I’m in the process of experimenting with the LoRes – units, so here are a few pictures of them.

With the camera panned out a bit, they don’t look that blurred.

Basically, when I was converting the Lo-Res from the Hi-Res – I noticed that they are the same except the Lo-Res are half the size, and then doubled in size to get the sprites to be the same size as the High-Res.

Now, after the units are doubled, they become a little bit more blurry, so I thought why not change the size of them, and so instead of expanding them to say (100), why not expand them to something like (66). It’s easier to explain by using these numbers.

So, these are pictures of the Lo-Res units expanded to (66), instead of (100) which is sort of blurry. Basically they are a third size smaller, which makes the sprites tighter.

Now considering that there are no fences on the Alpine Map, this just might work!

What do you think?

Question for the Modders – running the game on Lo-Res, instead of the Hi-Res – doesn’t seem to make the game run any faster, it only seems to free up more memory!

What are your thoughts on this?

That is good info about the Lo res sprites. Still, lot of work to make these smaller and less performance demanding sprites work, rescaling flags, etc. And the main hurtle, rewriting all the formations to accommodate the adjusted spacings.

Keep probing Davinci, I'm learning lots of good stuff, and everything's always helpful with your quests. :)

RebBugler - I have already redone everything, Flags, Trees, Formations, Smoke, etc...

What I going to do is delete all of the other stuff, that will expand the size of the mod. I have already fixed it so that no one can pick the Hi-Res uniforms.

I'll send you a copy sometime tomorrow morning.

Correction - still haven't done the Cavalry, or the Artillery Formations.
